Pair of Haflingers for Restoration

I have a friend in BC with a pair of Hafs for sale that would make a good restoration project for anyone in the group with an interest to do so. Between the two trucks there should be the majority of everything needed to make one good unit. The asking price is very reasonable. You can PM me for more...

Re: Restoration Project -Parts and advice wanted

Hi Clive, Congrats on rescuing this Haf. It is a 1967 Canadian model with chassis number 5358594. This Haf was originally part of a small municipal fleet purchased new by the City of Quebec. All of the Hafs in that fleet were painted the orange colour that you now see it in. Some were ordered as ori...

Re: RES, OIL, IGN dash label plates

Hi Dan, I've been making the various Haflinger plates for the past few years and have a variety on hand. The originals were made by photo etching. I use the more modern method of laser etching. Either way it's the digital template set up that is very laborious to get "spot on" to the origi...

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Hi John, I got that email too. I saved the attachments and followed the link but couldn't seem to see anything that matched up well to North American Haflinger colors. Both the Fiat sheet and the Steyr-Puch samples seem "off" by several shade degrees. I recognized some colors as possibly f...

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Hey Dan,
I'll take those green wheels off your hands when you are ready to part with them. We can work out some kind of deal in trade for the doors and other parts you asked me for.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Hi Dan,
The Pathfinder in the Puch museum is L281. The lower photo apparently is displaying the effects of lighting/camera abnormalities.
Cheers,
Steve.

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Stripping the Haf down was no problem...always glad to help a buddy  The Bugatti is beautiful and the workmanship is marvelous but it just isn't the "real thing" so somehow it makes the $3M cost seem insanely ridiculous. Now if you want to own a very rare and true original then I'll l...

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Hi Dan, Well that's certainly the fast way to "Get 'er Done" 8) . Yes, I've seen the show. Those guys sure know how to ask for $$. You might take the title of World's Most Expensive Haflinger away from me, haha! Here's a picture of the underside of my "Rot" Canadian Haflinger wit...

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Hi Dan, Wow! Your picture #1 really exemplifies my comment about different cameras and lighting conditions...I would never have imagined these were from the same truck. Your #2 picture very much tells me that your truck was L281 but this is contrary to the description on the Wagenstammkarte. Yes, pi...

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Hi Dan, The color of your 2nd Haf and Mike's side boards is the RAL7013 Matte Olive. Although the images appear as slightly different hues, you have to consider lighting conditions and camera model color shifting. My Haf looks deep orange with my Fuji digital camera but the proper red with my Leica ...

Re: Haflinger regulator fried

Hi Shawn,
A good starting point for your search would be Scott at Expedition Imports or Leo Castiglione (US agent for Robert Prokschi).
Do you know the cause of the damage? I'd want to know that before putting in a new one.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

So I got my Wagenstammkarte/build sheet... Color is listed as "beige" so now I am even more confused!! Hi Dan, Your original color is the L275 code that I gave you a while back. Note that many of the bolt-on pieces on original Hafs were painted with the olive green Austrian military paint...

Re: Hafi Heavy Cleaning - lots of photos

Hi Dan, It's my understanding that all Haflingers began life with an L281 coat of paint. This first coat served as a primer and some trucks received additional coats if ordered in that hue. I know my trucks had this color beneath the original undercoat layer. Interestingly though, original spare bod...

Re: Clutch issues today!

Hi Dan, The end of each steel tube is supposed to be flared outward to prevent cable chafing. The tubes are joined together by a short length of reinforced rubber hose that fits over each of the flared ends. Also check that the inside of the tubes are clean, free of rust flakes and other debris. A c...
