Sounds like you're going to do a tire change. Another option other than changing the t-case is mounting a strobe. My dad has a sprinter van that he drives at 55mph for fuel economy reasons on the interstate. He got a cheap 12v amber strobe light that sticks to the back door with a magnet and plugs i...

No worries! That was actually very helpful. Since you drive a suby, let me ask you something subjective: Do you get that planted to the road feeling in the pinz as you do with the 'roo? This is of course with all the lockers off (i.e. unlocked 2 rear axles being driven) I've never ridden in a pinz, ...

There are several suby awd systems out there. It sounds like you have the same one I do: the 4eat phase II automatic (cvttc) with the front wheel drive bias that normally splits torque 90/10 front to rear under normal conditions and maxes out at 50/50 under poor traction conditions. I couldn't track...

Points all around for everyone's info! :P On my subaru which has awd, I have to keep the tires within 1/4" in circumference to avoid wear on the spider gears. Is this something to keep an eye on in a pinzgauer since it also IIRC has spider gears? Also, does the 4wd/6wd function on dry pavement ...

Don't worry Peter, I'll keep my suggestions to a minimum.

But seriously, wouldn't it be feasible to adjust brakes at tire rotation intervals?

How often do you all rotate?

If driven infrequently, following the factory schedule probably wouldn't be too bad. To me it's not as much a question of doing it as I change gear oil in my cars presently, but whether the intervals are based upon engineering principles or swiss military policies as genevapinz alluded to. I guess o...

I followed genevapinz's link and found a maintenance schedule for the pinz. (thanks geneva pinz) I was pretty much floored...valve adjustments, cylinder head retorquing, gear oil changes every 6k. Engine oil every 3k (ok I expected that). And if you offroad, these intervals are supposed to be cut in...

Sorry chaps for the flaming, I've been stuck at home for the past week with the flu and I guess I got a little impatient.

No hard feelings?!

texas pinz--thanks for your replies and honesty. I would think the swiss/austrian military who decomissioned the vehicles would have service schedules. Steyr should know! I don't know what disturbs me more that apparently no one on the forum knows or they just refuse to share and/or direct us to the...

Ok thanks for the responses! I guess I'm looking to use this as a 90% road vehicle with occasional offroad excursions. Sort of a toy and occasional family/people/stuff hauler. I'm guessing that with enough dynamatting, I can make the noise level tolerable, and fit better seats w/belts to make it saf...

maintenance schedule

Hello all!

Still trying to get a better feel as to what ownership would be like. Being an older vehicle I would expect maintenance would be more involved than on a newer vehicle.

Could anyone give me an idea as to what the maintenance schedule is on these vehicles?

Thanks

Sorry didn't mean to imply that I owned a tatra "kolos" by my avatar. I'm just interested in all things designed by Ledwinka. Maybe someday... :P Paris-Dakar: What a mad, amazing, grueling event! I believe tatra trucks still compete although the the russian trucks seem to be taking the awa...
