Pinz History
I took the rear seats out of my 1971 Pinz 710M to replace the squishy or missing foam, and located what appeared to be inspection tags in all four seat bottoms. Two were blank, and the other two contained some information in German. One tag was dated 27 Sep 1971, and the other was dated 18 Mai 1970....

Oil Return Tube "O" Rings
What are the oil return tube "O" rings made of? I thought they may be nitrile but the temp range for nitrile seems too low for the application.

Re: Oil Return Tube "O" Ring Problem
I've got a 1971 710M with the old style heads. However, the #2 cylinder head was beyond repair so I replaced it with a new style head, which I was assured would be compatible. I placed the "O" ring over the new oil return tube and inserted it into the head, but for some reason the "O&...

Oil Return Tube "O" Ring Problem
I'm having a terrible time keeping the "O" ring on the oil return tube from sliding down the oil return tube when I slide it into the head. I've tried all of the ideas listed in previous posts with no success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Photos wouldn't hurt, either. I'm so close...

Re: Engine Reassembly
All of the other posts mentioned using the Permatex aviation sealant, so that was the direction I was headed. What is the set-up time for the copper sealant?

Engine Reassembly
I'm getting ready to reassembly my engine and found numerous references to Permatex Aviation Sealer #2. However, Permatex only shows various #3 aviation sealers, and the physical description (dark reddish brown) doesn't match the photos in the forum. I called Permatex and got no answer. Are the Perm...

Re: Smoking Oil Filler Breather
Discovered that the secret to cylinder removal is application of adequate force with a hammer. All cylinders removed, and the rings on piston three and four were shot. Bores on those cylinders are scored as well. All the bits are on their way to the machine shop.

Re: Fuel Pump Gasket Leaks
Hard to tell if the fuel pump is causing running problems since the rings on cylinders three and four had bad rings. I'll know more about how well things are working in the pump when the engine is back together. I'll remove the pump and take a look inside, and see if I have a cracked housing. I have...

Fuel Pump Gasket Leaks
I rebuilt my fuel pump a year ago and it is working well, but the base gaskets leak. I installed another set of new gaskets about four months ago and they are also leaking. I watched the pump closely after the second set of gaskets were installed, and over a few weeks noticed the gaskets getting slo...

Re: Smoking Oil Filler Breather
Removed the heads without any trouble, but can't seem to get the lifter housings out. They only slide out about 1/2". And I can't access the cylinder bolts with them in the way. Also, will a thin wall socket be able to get in to remove the cylinder bolts or is there a special tool? I don't want...

Re: Smoking Oil Filler Breather
Incidentally, the motor only has 38,000 km on it and I don't treat it roughly. Is this a normal interval for rings/valves for these motors?

Re: Smoking Oil Filler Breather
I removed the head on my old Rover, so hopefully the Pinz isn't any more difficult. And I have the service manual to guide me. I have a good machine shop in town for the head work. As long as I am taking things apart, any recommendations on other things to replace while I'm in there?

Re: Smoking Oil Filler Breather
I got a leak down tester and went through the engine last night. I adjusted the valves first then did the test on a warm engine. Here's what I got: Cylinder #1: 12% Cylinder #2: 14% Cylinder #3: 40% Cylinder #4: 45% I ran through test twice and got results +/- 5% for each cylinder between round one ...

Re: Smoking Oil Filler Breather
I'm still looking for a leak-down tester, but did a compression test this weekend and got 150 on cylinders one and two, and 130 on cylinders three and four. Any thoughts on these results?
