Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat

Also helpful in this kind of whacky timing backfiring situation,. Disassemble the distributor so you can see down into the housing where the centrifugal weights for spark advance are. [The dist does not use vacuum for spark advance] Mine was so rusted in there the weights were intermittent and cause...

Hey Compunerdy - Thanks for the wire colors. Just installed a replacement intern set from Airhead.
Couldn't have done it without you man. Works great.

Re: Drive with one 712 wheel off the ground?

Good point - shredding the flat tire and destroying the wheel is a cheaper solution!

Re: Engine Misfire - #2 not firing?

Friends,
A quick follow-up.... I am at 90% of normal, but she stalls when I throttle up at a stop light.
Do I need to advance my distributor, or do I need to retard it? to get the best power/acceleration for a standing stop?

Re: Engine Misfire - #2 not firing?

Friends, Belated Kudos to "Stekay" above. It was sticking dist weights. Unfortunately I didn't even remember they were under there and [stupidly] thought that the Pertronics hall sensor upgrade had removed the, But low and behold when we extracted the pertronics point plate there they were...

Re: Engine Misfire - #2 not firing?

Guys, good ideas. Double checked. Firing order 1243 .yes With help from a pinz friend, I did visual inspection of # 2 valve springs, dont look broken. So no need to replace them...right. that would be obvious...right. We did find that the carb jet for #2 was clogged. Removed jets and blew them out. ...

Re: Engine Misfire - #2 not firing?

Good idea in the WD40 dist, but with the civilian dist. Conversion, I dont think I have such weights anymore? Next stop valves.... How hard is replacing a valve spring? or better question... How is it done? I took the valve cover off to look and it looks straight forward. I always need to ask though...

Re: Engine Misfire - #2 not firing?

Guys, For the sake of eliminating the easy, I replaced the Dist Cap and rotor. This had no effect on the roughness. As I was fiddling with the cables I am getting less sure it is specifically #2. When I try to drive it there is a strange super low power state until I can get her rev'ed up, then almo...

Engine Misfire - #2 not firing?

Friends, I have a Pinz problem to solve and would appreciate other mind's thoughts - My poor Grunhilde's cyl#2 is not firing [or firing veeeeery intermittently.] The ailment had a rapid-ish onset - about a month ago. 25% power loss was noticeable, but drivable. She started running rough-ish particul...

Re: Drive with on 712 wheel off the ground?

I know it s crazy thought...But Yes - that is exactly my question. Lift one off the ground and drive on the other three. If you removed the wheel and lifted the hub "somehow" - maybe winched it up or something. Maybe it requires a special piece that bolts to the hub with a bearing on it so...

Drive with one 712 wheel off the ground?

Friends,

Is there a way to drive a 712 with one of the four rear wheels off the ground?
Like using a come-along to winch the 1/2 shaft upward?

This would be an expedient way to survive a flat if you had run out of spares.

Northern Nevada Pinz 71

Guys,
I just bought a 712 in Colorado and have to register it in Nevada this week. Are there any Tips you have for explaining things to the DMV? Vin number is short? 3 Axles? Do I need a VIR- Smog report? Any tips appreciated.
