Re: Battery going dead

I've had this Molex hand crimper for years, never has failed me and works for other "similar" type barrel terminals. Expensive but don't settle for a knockoffs. Amazon link below, you can search for better prices out of places like Digikey etc. P/N 63811-1000 https://www.amazon.com/Molex-6...

Re: crankcase ventilation

For years my EFI 710 ran with no Crank ventilation, like a 50's era car vented to the atmosphere. Couple of years ago after I did a top end rebuild, I decided to be nicer to the environment and correct that and connect to the vacuum vent side of the throttle body -but- I also decided to add a Oil ca...

Re: Battery going dead

If you remove the top front "tin" which is forward of the Front Carb, that will
give you acess to the back side of the alternator and the Molex connector.
You do NOT have to pull the carbs.

Shovel Mounting

A Swiss shovel has been laying around and I want to mount in my 710K Wheel Well. The Mount for the Blade is present. I have a Handle mount to attach but not sure where the heck it should go. If anyone happens to have their Phone and Head in your 710 Drivers side Wheel Well can you take a PIX of the ...

Re: Hooked up Battery wrong

If I understand the "Oops" you connected the Batteries as: (-B1+ to +B2- ) In that case, the effective output voltage would essentially be the difference between the two batteries and either slightly negative or positive -- assuming these two batteries are approximately equal. OK, well wha...

Re: noise bearing or pinion rear axle 712

If it's only under load, e.g. going up a grade, it's a difficult problem to isolate. Going under the premise that: noise = wear = Hot. You might want to try an Infrared Thermometer pointing at BOTH diff's to see if there's a significant difference -- as well as each of the four rear portals. You mig...

Re: 2013 CB Performance Black Box Programmable Timing Control Module

For what it's worth, attached is my advance curve for a 710 EFI. This would be applicable to low MAP pressure (less vacuum, heavy load). Although the MAP at low load is only an additional 4 degrees of advance and would be applicable at Idle and low load situations. The contribution to advance due to...

Re: 2013 CB Performance Black Box Programmable Timing Control Module

The advance curve in the manual is not necessarily the most ideal for this engine per se. It's what could be achieved mechanically and reasonable for this engine. It also is the most simple advance mechanism which is solely based on RPM. Detonation timing also would benefit from knowing what the loa...

Re: Changing piston, cylinders and cylinder heads

A shop with VW and Porche experience is ideal, your in good hands.

I'd be curious what he finds w.r.t. Valve seating. I do buy some
engine parts from S-Tec.

Re: Changing piston, cylinders and cylinder heads

There was more than one source for casting heads. There should be a casting mark on each head. See if they are identical. In any case, no matter how good the mating surfaces look, hand lap them. If they are pretty good to start with then it's a quick and more of a verification. Otherwise, the one wi...

Re: Changing piston, cylinders and cylinder heads

It's disappointing when you get something new and it's not perfect :o But, these aren't "New" they are "New Old Stock" cast some 50 years ago. They won't be perfect. They got moved and kicked around from one storage loc to another. Qualitatively, they look usable to me. A figure ...
