Re: WTB - Pinzgauer 6.5J x 16 H2 Steel Wheels

The part number you list is for the air-cooled Pinzgauers 710/712 - but you also included the designation "H2" which is a reference to the two "humps" which help to hold the beads on to the rim at low air pressures - these humps were not included on the air cooled Pinzgauer wheel...

Re: My latest project - Disc Brakes for a 710/712

I agree with Vince - but an additional issue is that there are very few wheels (either stock or aftermarket) that have enough back spacing. The original Pinz wheels have 6.6" / 168mm (which is unusual since the wheel is 6.5 inches wide). The ford transit wheel is close - it has a backspacing of...

Re: pinzguar712

Doesn't Jim's (Goatwerks) 2.7 liter piston set also increase the compression ratio? I think it would without requiring modifications of the engine tin holes etc. as well.

Anyone know?

Re: John Deere Hitch Receiver

The hole looks too small for the Pinzgauer's pintle hitch. You'll also have a part hanging down acting like a plow when you attempt to climb up a step or steep grade. Unless you really use the pintle hitch, I would just go with the 2 inch receiver myself...

Re: Steyr built BMW engine in the 80s?

It was built by Steyr but was based on BMW's petrol motor - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The BMW M21 is a six-cylinder-inline-diesel engine developed by the bavarian engine manufacturer BMW. It uses (indirect) fuel injection and is based on the M20 petrol engine and was produced for BMW by ...

Re: John Deere Hitch Receiver

I've had one of David's receivers on my pinz for a very long time and have used it to do numerous recoveries with straps, cables and receiver mounted winches. I even pulled a former grayhound bus MH conversion out of a ditch and hauled a 6500lb 35 foot long trailer "off-road" around my pro...

Re: Cummins crate motor

I mentioned the 5 cylinder MB diesel motor used in the Sprinter because it would be a similar application and similar weight / frontal area.

The Cummins 2.8 engine is a high speed motor - the peak HP rating is up at 3600 RPM in the specs and I've heard the redline is 4500 rpm - same as a MB diesel.

Re: VW bus tank

I always wondered about that as well - but that was how they were made... I think the only drive "wheel" for the tracks was at the very rear and they set it up higher to give more clearance and to keep it out of the mud that way... There were also amphibious versions which were called &quo...

Re: Cummins crate motor

Although it sounds small (2.8 liter) - the specs match up very nicely with the 5 cylinder Mercedes Diesel Sprinter engine - which gives very reasonable performance for a similar weight and frontal area vehicle. Certainly would be a preferred engine compared to the 6 cylinder volvo/vw engine - but th...
