Re: Volvo C303 - uneven braking

Based on the brake circuit diagram for a TGB11, if one servo was weak there would be differential braking performance on the rear wheels only, the fronts would stay balanced. This might cause the car to drag to one side under braking?

Re: Volvo C306 clutch question

Isn't the Volvo a cable clutch?

I suggest making sure the whole think is properly lubricated first and see if this helps.

Re: Turbo Diesel Volvo TGB 6x6 For Sale

Hi Leafspring - sharing some photo's would be great. There are a few of us on this forum looking at 300Tdi conversions, and it would be nice to see some picks of a similar conversion - perhaps you could add this into a thread in "Modifications".

Cheers,
Ian

Re: Second radiator behind a flap

Sorry to wade in... we're all friends here. All these ideas are valid engineering solutions and you are both right. The automotive industry uses all these proposals in production vehicles, and fan shroud sealing on all concepts is critical to maximising airflow performance. The real question ...

Re: Front axle not engaged?

I'm not an expert, but I would jack up one of the front wheels so you can spin the transfer case front output using this wheel. In theory, with the engine off (no vacuum), the cross axle diff lock will be "open" and the transfer case will be "locked" - therefore the wheel won't spin. You may need to...

Re: Front axle not engaged?

Hi. Front and rear axles should spin at the same speed - if they don't the diff ratios are stamped on a metal plaque on the diff housing. Ratio for your's should say 2.91 (TGB11) I think, but could be 3.44 (TGB13), or 3.66 (TGB20). A failure in the transfer case vacuum will set the system to 4x4 as ...

Ahhh... customs... Sounds very similar to my experiences in Australia...

On the plus side - the NEXT one will be much easier

Re: Part I, the import.

Bach International is a great recommendation. I know of several people here in Aus that are struggling to get hold of TGB11s for similar reasons to yourself.

Good luck with the importation. :D

Re: Brake breather - Pointless?

Pointless?? Well I guess that depends on the condition of the rubber seal between the drum and the back-plate. The Volvo is quite unique in that the drum is (allegedly) a fully sealed unit, and the breather is required to allow airflow to compensate for themal expansion of the contained air volume -...

Re: CV Boot Question

No - I don't run mine at the moment. If I did, it would leak oil again - just like last time...

I don't use mine because it is being fixed and has no diffs, steering, brakes, exhaust, seats, wiring, gauges, propshafts, etc...

Re: CV Boot Question

For reference, here are some pictures of the CV boot installation. Note that the CV seals the axle halfshaft around the brass ring, seals the portal to the axle casing (sandwiched between flangle) and then seals to the outer box (steel ring around CV). When my boots first split, the primary indicati...

Re: CV Boot Question

Hi Jeepboy,
This product still requires a CV boot though...

On the Volvo axle the CV runs wet (in oil), as do the bearings and gears in the portal box. The boot seperates this environment from the outside wet and muddy world.

Sadly not the holy grail... :(

Ian

Re: Removing steering ball joints

I tried a ball joint separator, a bearing puller but with no success. I eventually bought a pitman arm puller which worked a treat.
Check the size before you buy (this one may not suit).
