Re: New Volvo c304 owner new engine swap/ camp rig project

Nice progress! Steering looks good - never seen the drop box you used before, certainly frees up foot space.

Sitting the body up on rubber mounts is something I also plan to do (once my Volvo makes it back onto the "to do" list) - what mounts did you go with?

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

I wonder too if the 300TDi is the right choice too, but I do know if it doesn't work, then I can upgrade to the HS2.8 as a direct bolt in replacement. The 300TDi also came with a Disco attached which offered up parts for another project that I'm not currently working on. :( Ultimately these decision...

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

I've seen this one pop up on Facebook a couple of times as "spotted", but I know nothing about it. It would be really interesting to know who owns it and what they've been up to (and if they thought the 300TDi was a good idea).
I gather they are on a tour or Aus...

Re: Volvo C303 - uneven braking

Based on the brake circuit diagram for a TGB11, if one servo was weak there would be differential braking performance on the rear wheels only, the fronts would stay balanced. This might cause the car to drag to one side under braking?

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

G'day Lightning. Moved house (needs renovation), building a garage and now have high school fees to pay. Progress has stopped. These toys often end up at the bottom of the priority list. Once garage is finished (this year), Volvo will have a home and I'll have space to work on it. :o Cheers.

Re: Volvo C306 clutch question

Isn't the Volvo a cable clutch?

I suggest making sure the whole think is properly lubricated first and see if this helps.

Re: Turbo Diesel Volvo TGB 6x6 For Sale

Hi Leafspring - sharing some photo's would be great. There are a few of us on this forum looking at 300Tdi conversions, and it would be nice to see some picks of a similar conversion - perhaps you could add this into a thread in "Modifications".

Cheers,
Ian

Re: Disc brake conversion!

The Volvo 6x6 has a twin servo brake system which supports twin front calipers without having to "re-plumb" the brakes. The brake balance calculations also suggest twin calipers are appropriate for front to rear braking bias. The system balance then also allows for common calipers througho...

Depending on the price, I could complicate things and add another Australian 6x6... Just the fronts of course. :D

Re: Second radiator behind a flap

Sorry to wade in... we're all friends here. All these ideas are valid engineering solutions and you are both right. The automotive industry uses all these proposals in production vehicles, and fan shroud sealing on all concepts is critical to maximising airflow performance. The real question ...

Re: Front axle not engaged?

I'm not an expert, but I would jack up one of the front wheels so you can spin the transfer case front output using this wheel. In theory, with the engine off (no vacuum), the cross axle diff lock will be "open" and the transfer case will be "locked" - therefore the wheel won't s...

Re: Front axle not engaged?

Hi. Front and rear axles should spin at the same speed - if they don't the diff ratios are stamped on a metal plaque on the diff housing. Ratio for your's should say 2.91 (TGB11) I think, but could be 3.44 (TGB13), or 3.66 (TGB20). A failure in the transfer case vacuum will set the system to 4x4 as ...

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

Hi Warren, Currently my replacement engine and gearbox are sat on the floor and the original is still in situe. Time and space preventing much progress on this front (and most others it seems :( ). The pick below is of a similar set-up (300tdi/ZH4HP22/LT230), but one which has a hydraulic pump on th...
