Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

Just wanted to thank everyone for helping me with my engine problems. Many thanks goes out to David Dunn who pointed out the fact that I did not have a Petronix ignition system. Also gave me great advice on how to proceed from there and possible other projects. :) Replaced the Voltage Regulator and ...

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

We'll give it a shot next weekend, too late now.....Thanks... Oh Yeah, I took a voltage reading and I kept getting a constant 12 volts on the ignition connection even with the ignition off. The reading on the yellow wire is still 22 volts with the ignition on and zero with the ignition off. Reading ...

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

Hello Pinzinator, Just making sure if I did everything right. Did I make the correct connections from the battery? Still reading 0 at the relay for connection #2, Connection #3 is also reading 0. Connection #1 is reading around 22volts with the ignition on. What am I missing that my readings for #2 ...

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

Found the white wire! :o It was attached to the Bosch 12volt relay. What's odd is, there is a loose wire in the battery compartment which I think is the loose wire that goes into that relay. The one covered with electrical tape that is going away from the relay. I'll take off the wire that was splic...

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

Thanks guys, I'll start cleaning up the previous connections. I can't locate the white wire. The attached pictures has all of the wires in different colors but no white, gray is the closest I can find. BTW, that lone green wire was spliced into the wire that goes to the carb. That lone green wire we...

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

yep.....looks like a vw/audi..... Now, next question is do I need that square brown bosch box that says 12 volts. I'll be putting in a PinzSSI and I'm trying to figure out where the first connection has to go.

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

idstitch wrote:My guess? Sounds like it lost the timing, mechanically. Check for a loose distributor. Then just install the PinzSSI and be done with it.
Thanks Idstitch, will check it out tomorrow. I'd just like to get it running before I switch over to the SSI.

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

Ok, did the bypass for the RPM module, still no spark from the ignition coil, motor cranks, I smell the gas but no ignition. Replaced the Voltage regulator, rotor, ignition coil, and the distributor cap. I just received the PinzSSI. Before I replace the electronic ignition, is there anything else I ...

Re: Engine stalled, now won't start

Thanks Andre, Thanks Buzz. So what is the first thing that I should change? Voltage regulator? How do I check the alternator if the engine is not running?
