Re: Insurance Australia

In Australia, I would contact Shannons Insurance. They specialise in classic cars, and my Pinz is insured with them here in Tasmania. If they can't help they might put you onto someone who can.
Be sure to visit Tasmania if you make it to Australia and drop in and say hi.

Re: Towing standard trailers

I modified a Hayman Reese 50mm receiver, welding it to some 12mm plate and bolting it to the 3 bolts in place of the std hitch. For off road use I just have a short section of 50mm bar with a shackle through it for recoveries (an off the shelf part here in Oz) For towing, Hayman Reese make a cast st...

Re: OEM vs Aftermarket

What was wrong with them? Porous castings? Bad machining? Bad seals? I ask because if the rebuild kits are non-oem (I'm used to not being able to find ANY WWII era Dingo OEM rubber parts) then how do you find a good rebuild kit? Who then has the best rebuild kits? The original pistons and cylinders...

Re: OEM vs Aftermarket

I bought a full set of new (cheap, aftermarket) brake cylinders from one of the US suppliers. In short, they were garbage and I got what I paid for. I've since rebuilt and refitted the original cylinders, which is what I should have done in the first place.

Re: Pull to left when braking (wheel lock)

I was reading this post as I am dealing with a bit of the same problem. I adjusted all brakes about 6 month ago. Recently I started to experience a left back wheel lock when braking hard. Normal braking is uneventful, with minimum pulling, but any significant increase in braking power ends with the...

Re: Front suspension bangs

I have the same issue. I bought the truck 10 years ago, and as soon as I hit the first pothole I said, time for new shocks. Ordered a full set from SAV, changed the front two and.... absolutely no change. The damn thing feels horrible. But everything looks perfect, new shocks, springs look good, no...

Re: Basic Stock Brake Performance Question

Brake fade is a very real problem in the Pinz, if you don't use the gears. I went through the European Alps in mine a few years ago and many mountain passes I came down very slowly in 3rd gear. No problem then, but 4th was to high and wouldn't hold it back enough. I more or lost my brakes here in Ta...

Re: Front suspension bangs

I would add that bad shocks can lead to unexpected issues depending on your year of production. I had the early production shock bolt and retention strap set up with a bolt on each side to hold the shock and strap independently. Long story short you can break those bolts and be faced with a long an...

Exactly what I think too. Just wondered if it is normal, or as you say my shocks are weak and can't control it.

Re: Front suspension bangs

No it happens on fairly flat roads as the wheel drops into a pothole. Will also do it if the wheel drops off a small rockstep or similar.
Anything where the wheel and spring, etc gets the chance to rapidly fall.
On a rolling, rounded surface it is fine. It's only on a sharp drop

Front suspension bangs

Hi All, When driving along a rough road I find whenever a front wheel drops into a pothole, I get quite a bang from that wheel, whichever side it is. It sounds like maybe the spring rapidly extends and the bang comes from the axle strap snapping tight. Does anyone else experience this? Or have sugge...

Re: Leaking Hub

Hi Sam, It does look a bit like it's leaking from the joint where the inner/outer hub casings bolt together. Or could be leaking from the small tell-tale hole. Either way, i'd replace the hub seal while it is apart. You don't need any special tools, but you will need a puller to get the gear off. Mo...

Re: New to me Warn 12-C-Industrial Civilian Hummer winch, 12

You've maybe sorted this now, but I've run a 12 volt warn winch direct off 24v for a while without trouble. It cost me nothing, which is why I did it. As I understand it, it is the motor speed that destroys them, so I always pulse the switch when not under load to keep the speed down. Once the load ...

Re: 710M rebuild

Winch mount is in the back. Once here I will look to source a winch. Wondering how I can get 1 winch to work with both a 24v Pinz and a 12v G - dual motor gigglepin or I have read of people that run their 12v winch at 24v? I've run my 12V warn on 24V now for around 2 years without issue. The killer...
