Re: Pinzgauer 710M Conversion - Build thread

Looks like the conversion is coming along very nicely. I just noticed that you are planning to put your lithium batteries on the floor near the transmission access plate. I have noticed that cargo on the floor in that area gets quite hot from the proximity to the exhaust, heater, etc.. You may find ...

Re: New fuel gauge wiring Help needed

G is the sender unit connection. + is power the lamp goes to its connection the last connection is for ground The fuel gauge works by measuring the difference between the resistance to ground (the contact you need) and the resistance to ground through the sending unit's variable resistor which chang...

Re: 12v power source for electric steering

With the power steering needing variable amperage draw up to 40 amp, I would suggest wiring a feed off the down-stream battery and adding a battery equalizer to maintain the voltage balance between the two batteries. An equalizer is relatively inexpensive. I found mine for $20. It is capable of a 5 ...

Re: Haffy Transmission repair

Dan, Double clutching is easier on all transmissions. It can be practised on any manual vehicle. The key is nice and easy, gentle, don't break it. All of this is normally absorbed by the syncro which is why it fails. BTW syncro rings are only brass or similar material and not the hard steel of the g...

Re: How's this look

It's closer to you than to my side of the pond! You also have the advantage of having more shops about who are familiar with multiple carb setups. Irregardless of 710 or 712 a copy of the shop manual and parts book will be invaluable. The best advice to keep in mind is a line I found in my old...

Re: How's this look

Looks nice! Keep in mind, any Pinzgauer (like any older Land Rover or Jag) is not transportation but a hobby. Mine has been very good for 5 years but also has regular preventive maintenance. The weeping of some of the drive-line seams will need to be watched to make certain it doesn't become a leak....

Re: Haffy Transmission repair

Another option to expensive repairs, which may or may not solve you problem, is to used double clutching. Many older vehicles did not even have any syncromesh. You can shift down by double clutching the shift. (double de-clutching if British) The process is: 1. Use clutch to shift to neutral. Releas...

Re: '72 712M ... Ambulance Box Doors Won't Unlock (pic added)

While I am not familiar with this exact lock I have added factory locks to the front doors of my 710m. The locks were used and did not work until they were disassembled and thoroughly cleaned, reassembled and lubricated. If you can remove the lock to clean that would be best. It also gives you a cha...

Looks like a job very well done. Thanks for the ratchet strap idea. I'll make use of that one.

Is your safety not worth doing it right? Not to mention that if anything goes wrong and someone else is injured (especially your little mechanic's helper).

Re: bad gas... quick fix

The cheapest solution I have found is Methyl Hydrate from the paint department. It is what gas-line antifreeze is. A gallon costs about the same as a small 1 cup g-l antifreeze bottle.
