Re: High Water
The transmission has a vent that is about 27” up. The rest of gearboxes, I cannot figure out how they are vented.

Re: Vapor Lock
I do a lot of chainsaw work in the spring when it is warming up but the stations still have winter gas fuel boiling in the carbs is pretty common. I can’t figure how it gets past the check valves in the fuel pump, but you can look in the fuel tank and see bubbles coming out of the suction. The saw a...

Re: crankcase ventilation
So am I correct in thinking the Pinz is “type 1”? If so what do others think about feeding filtered air into the crankcase to get a little more ventilation? Maybe take air from the area by the alternator where it has a little head from the cooling fan?

Re: Hard starting hot
So my intake manifolds are insulated. I suspect it is carbs, mostly because my ignition is solid and my carbs are decrepit (but rebuilt). It will start when hot but just takes a lot of cranking. I sometimes wonder if I am boiling the fuel in the bowls. I don’tthink it is the coil because once it sta...

Re: crankcase ventilation
Hague’s, Ithink you are right, the oil fill tube acts as an oil separator. The problems are (a) any water that condenses out also goes back into the sump, and (b) there is not enough airflow through the crankcase to flush out the water vapor. I think the big challenge to adding using a PCV system wo...

Re: Battery going dead
Well all back together and working fine. For somebody else doing this, it is not very hard. I suggest buying new spade terminals and installing them rather than putting one of those SAV pigtails on. The trick for getting the main harness connector apart us to use some small needle nose pliers to gra...

Re: Hard starting hot
If I leave it off just a minute or two it is fine. If I leave it off an hour it is fine. In between it is likely to be balky.

Re: crankcase ventilation
Here is a long diatribe about crankcase ventilation. It looks like systems like the Pinz’s are common on lawn mower engines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankcase ... ion_system

Re: crankcase ventilation
I saw this thread pop up and found out I started years ago! Is there a consensus that the crankcase is vented in only one spot, that there is no circulation to flush out blow by from the crankcase? Do others think that is weird?

Re: Battery going dead
Just about finished. Replacing the spade terminals and female molenex is pretty easy, cheaper, and probably better than splicing in that pigtail you can get from SAV. If someone has a suggestion for a crimping tool for those factory crimp connector I would appreciate it. Mine was obviously not the r...

Re: Battery going dead
I am finally getting around to changing the connector and am hoping somebody who has done so can give me some pointers. I bought the wire set that goes from the alternator to the cowl and the molenex connector and spade terminal to change out the piece on the main harness. To get to the alternator t...

Carb rebuild shop?
I have splurged and bought two new carbs for my Pinz. My old ones worked okay but not perfect. They seeped a little gas and I suspect they are responsible for a hot restart problem. I suspect there is a little warpage of the castings and wear of parts that do not come in rebuild kits. I am sure they...

8 wheel pinz
Has anybody built a Pinz with more than 6 wheels? I know Tatra built some trucks on the same principle with two steering axles and two rear axles, maybe more.

Re: Battery going dead
Thanks RMEL. I hit the connector with some elecroclean as it was the only thingI could find. Got it surprisingly clean. I plugged it back in and cranked it up and the voltage went way up, like 39 volts according to my meter. I unplugged and replugged a few times and it was showing 28.something when ...
