Re: Airing down with factory wheels & tubeless tires

I have the aftermarket aluminum wheels and have put Coyote inrernal bead locks in them. I go down to 10 psi. Before I put the bead locks I had trouble at 15 psi. I would drive mud and pieces of wood between the bead and the tire. I really like the internal bead locks.

Re: Compression ratio

I think our 87 AKI fuel is about 92 RON. It should be good for about 8:1 rather than the standard 7.5:1. It sounds like the easy way to do it is Jim's kit.

3 wheel brakes?

I suspect one of my rear brakes is not working. I noticed my brakes are not too strong when backing down a hill. I adjusted them today and the left rear did not need adjusting. The others did. The cylinders are 4 or 5 years old. Maybe one has seized. I am trying to think through how to inspect it. I...

Compression ratio

It seems like the stock compression ratio is pretty low, I guess to allow for for low octane fuel. Being that the lowest octane available here is 87 I would think the compression ratio could be raised without much issue. It seems like it would be easy to do, just shorten the jugs a bit. Has anybody ...

Dizzy vacuum orifice diameter

Does anybody know the size of the hole in the orifice for the dizzy vacuum line? Mine is plugged up.

Re: Timing on Pertronix

To set my timing I get it about tdc then fine tune it on a hill by my house. I advance it a little at a time and my speed creeps up. When it quits creeping up with advance I quit advancing. The setting is as little advance as you need to get maximum speed up the hill. I then lug it to see if it ping...

Re: Fire coming out of tail pipe

I have always wondered if it was possible to rig up something to shut the idle valves during engine braking. I thought doing so might help with the stench. I will look for some exhaust leaks

Fire coming out of tail pipe

I noticed some fire coming out of my tailpipe this evening. I was coming down a long steep hill, engine braking the whole way. About 5 minutes in I noticed some orange light in my mirror. It was fire coming out of my tailpipe. If I cracked the throttle just a little it went out. The truck runs fine....

Re: Stumbling in the rain?

I think I have this problem too. Intermittent rough running, misfires, and low power, particularly at low rpm. It seems to fix itself which confuses things. Once it was clearly water in the distributor cap so I am going with that for now. I have the Petronix civilian conversion with the vacuum vent....

carb leak

I had trouble with my carb leaking after I went through it. I found a good way to locate the leak. Dump the gas out, spray the outside with soapy water and blow compressed air into the bowl vent. The bowl vent is the thing with the screen in it right in the middle when looking down from the top. All...

Re: rev limiter, supressor

I took the front carb apart, cleaned it and put it back together and everything is fine again. That is the first time I had a carb problem that was intermittent.

Re: Carb idle jet oring?

My carb is back together and I will try it in the morning. Except for the extra orings on the idle jets, there was no obvious problem. JIm L's instructions were great. I would only add one thing: Until you get your float level right, use the old top gasket; save your good gasket until you have the f...

Re: Carb idle jet oring?

Thanks for all the help. So mine had o-rings on the idle jet and has run fine until recently. I have taken them off. The o-rings onthe idle mixture screw (small type) are missing. I will put some there. My front is small screw and my back is large screw. I don't have a good picture of the large scre...

Carb idle jet oring?

I am sorting out a misfiring cylinder on my truck and suspect it is fuel mixture related. I removed the jet cover and pulled the jets. The slow-running jets (1-40-28, 700.1.08.405.1/60) had o-rings in their seats. The drawing in the parts book does not show an o-ring here. Does anyone know if there ...
