If I leave it off just a minute or two it is fine. If I leave it off an hour it is fine. In between it is likely to be balky.

I grounded the terminal going to the switch at the bulb socket and the bulb lit. Did not try grounding at the switch itself, so maybe it is wire, but probably not.
