Re: Random things.... :)

THIS IS NOT MINE, JUST FYI... Was browsing Craigslist and came across this. I guess i shouldn't judge, don't know what condition the top of the rig was in. but did they really just chop the top off a K??? https://austin.craigslist.org/cto/d/san-antonio-1975-pinzgauer-custom-ranch/7723942998.html 16k...

Re: Brakes don't work.

I am not aware of 710's having 2 brake reservoirs, but I only have a 710M. There are 3 in my truck, brakes, clutch and lockers. If you have a leak in one, I would replace the reservoir. Easy to do and you can get the newer version. Sounds like air in the line (at a minimum) and they need to be bled....

Re: Battery going dead

I "lost" my alternator one time on a trip. It was scary watching the batteries drain in real-time, being over 100 miles away from the house. Turned out, it was the grounding lug for the alternator that had worked loose, easy fix, but definitely something to check.

Re: Carburator - "Hot Climate" Version

Wow, another Texan. Curious about what part of Texas you're in, I'm outside of San Antonio. The next time I've got my manuals out, I'll have to look if it is defined. I would think we qualify as a hot climate. I went through my carbs a few years ago, bad seals etc. Makes a difference, but plan on sp...

Re: Rear seat upholstery

I don't have a source for you, I know it can be done because the PO of my truck had his done. He used a very basic, almost canvas like material. It doesn't seem like that hard of a project to tackle. My words of advice. Be very specific about the foam size, my guy went big and comfortable and now I ...

Re: popping noise

Curious to what type of ignition you are using? As this could be timing related. Also, is your 4500 limiter still original, or have you jumped that (taken it out of commission?)

Re: Daily driver tire wear

I think it also depends on how loaded the pinz is. If you are rolling around with 1 person and no weight in the back, the front tires are going to wear more due to the camber. If you have 2 people up front and loaded, there will be more even wear. Obviously, adjust the camber to spec, but be aware o...

Re: Can you have 2 24v to 12v converters?

Mr. Zero. I think we may have similar issues. My converter that run the ignition only has no problems. But once I hook up the second converter to the fuse block, I get problems. With the battery key off, there is power to my ignition switch, which is not normal. I am figuring there is some sort of s...

Re: Can you have 2 24v to 12v converters?

I believe its the Orion 24/12-25, no issue doing that but I was under the impression both grounds were internally connected.

Re: Can you have 2 24v to 12v converters?

Okay, so if I am hearing you correctly, I should be able to connect both converters to the same 24V source and ground (Say battery bank, fused of course) and they would work fine. Having done that, and it not working, leads me to believe I need to dig a little more into how the 12v system is wired. ...

Can you have 2 24v to 12v converters?

I had a 24 to 12v converter take a dump on me and I thought I might want to split the ignition (SSI) from the accessories (HAM/CB, a few lights etc). I purchased an Eaton, sealed converter and have it wired up to the batteries/disconnect. This unit is solely for my 12v ignition needs. This is wired ...

Re: Doghouse Renovation

Anything you are thinking about adding to the underside of the doghouse would need to almost be mechanically attached, not sure a glue would even hold up over time. The contact adhesive on those mass loaded vinyl products won't cut it at all, just trust me on that one...

Re: New 712m owner + first things to check

All great advise. If you do some of this maintenance in stages, visually check your transmission level at a minimum. Sometimes you can develop a small leak that goes unnoticed and that could be very bad. And remember, most of the time you drain and fill using 2 different plugs (wheels, diffs, transf...
