Re: Pinzgauer 710M Conversion - Build thread

Great build. I'm looking forward to watching your videos when I get a bit more time.

I use mine for Search & Rescue - there are some pretty cool videos on YouTube on how it's used 😎

I need to redo mine so I'll get in line next in case previous buyer backs out.

Thanks.

Re: Noise reduction with intercom

Found a picture of the intercom controls.. The control set at the back of hte console is for the Intercom. The top contol unit with the Rugged logo is to select which radio is connected to the headset for transmission. Radio 1 is my front iCom and Radio 2 is the next one back. The toggle switch in t...

Re: Noise reduction with intercom

I have used the Rugged Radio intercom system for years. I have headsets for driver and passenger as well as one for the rear passengers (usually for the Team leader for whatever Search & Rescue team I'm hauling). I have them tied into my iCom radios so I can also use them for comms during a miss...

Re: Spare Tire Mount

Here's what I came up with, it includes a rack above with cubbies built into it and is perfectly sized for my Fridge to be strapped there or for air tanks during a Search & Rescue mission.

The center of the tire has a third brake light..

Re: New Headlights and Turn Signals

Sorry for slow reply. Haven’t been to this site for a while. The headlights are stock Jeep 7” round headlights, I just modified the connector to fit. The turn signals are Whalen Vortex LEDs that support two inputs. I use one in amber flashing mode when on an active mission where emergency lights are...

Re: Engine wanted

GadgetPhreak, I’m a bit confused who you are talking to. But I say go for it on the pinz. Honestly I do think it’s not the best engine option but it would make the pinz a fun truck. My biggest desire on the pinz was an automatic which was going to be an easy swap but I sold my pinz before I got sta...

Re: Engine wanted

I'm not immediately convinced, no, or I would have already started down that path :-) Doing the Cummins Swap in the FJ was partially to just get some learnings to help inform on the potential challenges. The Gen II Pinzgauers used a VW 5spd Diesel, with the front mounted intercooler so there's parts...

Re: New Headlights and Turn Signals

I did a combination.. I added a 2way LED flasher behind so I can send the turn signal input for standard use or my amber flash input when on active Search & Rescue mission and need the additional visibility. The result is an assembly that looks stock but provides better functionality and more vi...

Re: Engine wanted

I agree with the 20+ estimate.. I put the R2.8 in my FJ-40 (much lighter rig obviously) but due to the incredible performance and the intoxicating sound of the turbo spooling up I am not easy on the skinny pedal by any means and am getting about 27mpg. I've been chatting with the Cummins Repower tea...

Re: Soon To Be Owner!

Congratulations. Welcome to the experience, it’s easily one of the best off-road vehicles I’ve ever driven and very fun to drive. Also, you can get full, unrestricted, insurance for them. I have State Farm and can use it as much as I’d like with no cap on miles. Where in the PNW are you? I’m in REDM...
