Re: Volvo C303 Portal Axles For Sale - 3 pair

Hello,
Are these still available? Can you offer any information regarding where they came from? What mileage? I sent you a couple of private messages but have not seen a response yet. I'm interested in buying a pair.
Thanks very much,
Rick

Why do you read this forum?

Sometimes it's idle entertainment scrolling through this forum to read other peoples stories. Sometimes I'm searching for information or solutions to a technical problem. And sometimes I get a laugh out of the odd ball photos of weird trucks. Anyway, I get a lot out of this forum and realized it's b...

Re: Old tuning procedure

That's one of them fancy expensive foreign car tuners. My first car was a '37 Chevy with a rumble seat. The tuner for that one only had four buttons.

Oil cooler leak

After driving (light use) the Volvo for a couple of years it developed a minor but annoying oil drip from behind the oil cooler. Nothing major and in hindsight I should have left it alone. I got 2 cooler seals from Tatanka as well as some extra water pipe seals and after moving those hoses and tubes...

Re: 24v Warn winch M12000 with syn rope

Is there any difference in the drum or cable attachment on the M8000 if you choose to use synthetic as opposed to wire?
Even though the shipping across country will be $$, I'm interested in that winch because it would be 100% American made.
Thanks, Rick

Re: 24v Warn winch M12000 with syn rope

Vince,
In your opinion is it the right size for a stock C303 (not built out with a heavy interior and OVERloaded with gear)? Or is it really more winch than it needs?
Thanks, Rick

Re: Front Axle Stuck On

Jim made most of the points I was going to mention. In short, there's a lot that goes on engaging the front axle under different scenarios. My front axle button used to stick when I first got the truck.Maybe it hadn't been used much. Sometimes I had to wait until all the vacuum was bled off the syst...

Re: Onboard Tool Kit

I will bet that there are as many answers to that question as there are people that respond. I took public transportation and hitch hiked (in my 60's) to pick up my C303 sight unseen and drove it back through four states with fake plates. I think I had a pair of vice grips, Leatherman style knife, r...

Re: Petronix question

I got in touch with the folks that make the 123 ignition and asked them about the water issue. I said that I did intend to go off road but had no intention of submerging the engine. Below is the reply. I'd hate to think I'd have to worry about washing the engine with de-greaser and a hose, but I sup...

Re: Petronix question

Jim, Below is a link to another option similar to Petronix. It has a most detailed discussion regarding Bosch distributor models. Again they are 12 volt, however since their marketing seems to focus on Volvo Penta perhaps they've eliminated any water problems. Seems inexpensive. Have you heard of th...

Re: Petronix question

Put new points etc. back in for the time being. Runs great, too cold, but that's a thermostat issue. I still want to pursue the electronic module thing. Maybe I burned up the last one because the Volvo sequence eliminated the ballast resistor during starting as you said. I thought the 5+ ohms resist...

Re: Petronix question

Vince posted a wiring diagram Jan 15, 2019 which is the only version I have seen showing the relay and resistor. It's under the Body and Electrical group. All the other wire diagrams I've come across are for 12 volt civilian C303. Is anyone else still using this original set up which seems more comp...

Re: Petronix question

Attached photo of relay and Ballast (?)
Coil itself has 5.7 ohms of resistance. Installation instructions recommend at least 3 ohms.
