Voltage regulator failure modes

What are the failure modes of the voltage reguators? Is an intermittant failure to regulate voltage a typical behavior? Sitting idling its fine, rev, no issues. Then suddenly while idling again it will spike past 30 volts and settle back down again. Contacts on the regulator/connector have been clea...

Re: What the Heck is This?

That's a connector that plugs into the back of the fuel gauge. It looks like one of the pins has pulled off the fuel gauge. They're differently sized so you can only plug it in one way (assuming the pin isn't broken off like as above).

Interior lights

For folks who have added interior dome lights, what have you used?

I’m looking for something that will add lighting to Mark von T’s pinz for the cab and bed area.

An LED based red/white light would be preferred.

Re: 4wd Doesn't engage

Do any of the fittings on the piston side of the actuation system come out laterally without getting into the driveline tube?

Re: grease fittings

I did the same thing. Compared to my Ferret or my M35A2, there's hardly any zerk fittings on these.

4wd Doesn't engage

What's the procedure for trying to figure out what's going on with 4WD? With the truck up on stands, the 4WD doesn't appear to engage. Driving on soft ground likewise. There's a new switch in the left side of the Witches Hat and it illuminates the light when you ground the connection at the switch c...

Re: 6x6 tire chains...mud or snow....

Not a pinz, but heavier...we had a very bad ice storm several years ago here in Georgia. I had my M35A2 out in it to rescue folks and such. I ran chains on the front and rear axle. I was able to reliably accelerate and brake as well as recover stuck vehicles. Given the speeds, less thant 30mph it wa...

Re: Where is the ballast resistor?

So just ruminating on the contents of the thread. I'm newish to Pinz's but experienced in other vehicles and system. 1. If the voltage regulator in the generator (or is it an Alternator?) is a known failure point that can take out other parts of the vehicle, would a voltage limiter placed downstream...

Re: Nato or 2 Pin slave cable socket, where?

Yeah, next to the battery box seems like a good location, fewer locations to cut to make a path for the wires. I have an M35 and one of those Bradly impact wrenches for it (bought a pallet of them years ago via GL). M35's place the slave socket on the right side of the cab behind the co-driver. HMMW...

Nato or 2 Pin slave cable socket, where?

Where on your trucks would you place a nato (or 2 pin) slave starting cable socket? By design there's a facility for a socket on the back end next to the tail light, but that gets covered up by the upgraded LED lights. Where would you guys put such a socket on your truck? In the cab? Next to the bat...

Re: Fuel Pump Rebuild?

Why don't these fuel pumps have a hand priming lever? The British vehicles I'm used to have them though they're in arguably MUCH harder places to reach than on the pinz.

Have you put a DMM on the batteries while running to see if the system is even charging?

Shell has the Omala line of gear oils that are yellow metal safe. I've bough 5 gallon pails of it for my ferret and dingo.

Re: Tire Chains for a 712K

my 2 Pf.... While not a Pinz but I've had my M35A2 2.5 ton chained up for ice on roads down here in Georgia. Two different ice storms we had. Chains on the front axle and rear axle worked great. The intermediate axle was left unchained. I had no stability issues and traction was great. The truck acc...

Rear Driveline Noise

So, my buddy's (Mvon2054) Pinz is displaying some rather dramatic noise from the back diff. The Mercedes shop it's at now is reporting one tone while under power and another tone when off throttle. Almost as if one of the bevels is shifting (badly shimmed or something else). They're not very familia...
