Re: Custom door panels

Well, I confused myself with my own excitement! It turns out you can't get both a right and left out of one 2x4' sheet, but you can get two of one side, be it two rights or two lefts. I ordered two full sheets, so I've got enough material to make another R & L set. If anyone wants some diy panel...

Re: Custom door panels

I'm about to tackle new panels on my 710 and realized a 2'x4' piece of Kydex is the way to go. If you flip one panel upsidedown, they nest together nicely with little waste. The OD green isn't quite as brown as the original color (shown with handle pocket) but close enough for me. KIMG4228.JPG 33 bu...

Wtb: 710 rh door

My passenger door is waaaay more rusty than it appeared so I'm looking for a replacement all together. The top frame isn't in much better shape either, but I still may be able to salvage it. Anyone have a decent one (set) lying around them want to get rid of? Color not important. I see SAV has them,...

Re: Lots of cheap heaters popping up

I've been running a 2kw with the Afterburner controller in my Vanagon for a while now, burning straight kerosene. I've been blown away with it's performance, it's kind of crazy really. I was skeptical so I had to see it to believe it. During a -20f week I set it up on a bench stand and ran it for 5 ...

Re: Rebuilding locker masters

Well that was easier than I thought it was going to be. I rebuilt all three master cylinders for the lockers, fixed the lever assembly with the 'upgraded' bolt addition, and took care of the rusting mounting box. I went ahead and cleaned the reservoir and replaced the rubber T's coming off it for go...

Rebuilding locker masters

Going in deep! My 710 came with a broken rear locker selector and the piston seized in it's master cylinder so I decided to rebuild all three at the same time. KIMG4146.JPG KIMG4145.JPG The manual says that the piston and cylinders are a matched tolerance set so I'm keeping everything separate. I'll...

Re: Reverse engagement

Wow, thanks for the excellent responses guys! I'll practice my technique being cognisant of those three moves and double check that stop plate too. Can't wait to get some miles on this after the much needed maintenance is up to snuff.

Cheers!

Re: Headlight replacement

Hahaha tough crowd :)

I went ahead and installed the EI Hella 70/75 H4's the other day. I assumed they were going to be the E-code lens but DOT's showed up instead. No matter, once they take a rock hit I'll go back to the better Euro lens. I lost my city light too. Next time, next time...

Headlight replacement

My headlights aren't as bright as I think they should be. Do I need new bulbs or something?

Reverse engagement

Down and to the upper left correct?

If reverse is hard to come by, what should I be looking at to replace? The heim joint at the end of the selector shaft, the 'dogbone' or the angle stop bracket? Or all three?

Re: Consensus on wheel drive lubricant?

I stole my wife's garden sprayer, chopped the end off the wand, and have used that for years to pressure fill gear oil. It's a slow process (especially when the oil is cold) but works well on any vehicle. And since she bought it it was free for me! :). I just filled my diffs and gearboxes with it to...

Re: Samlex DC-DC converter operation

Thanks guys that helps a lot. Makes sense that having a fan isn't the most desirable...I'll look into other options. I use a Victron solar controller for one of my Vanagons and haven't had any issues with it over the years so maybe I'll try one of theirs instead of the Samlex. I don't plan on using ...
