Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

Thanks pcollete. So, trying to organize my thoughts on options here, before I have a chance to tear more things apart. (The assumption is the engine is FUBAR) So far, I'm looking at: Repair/Rebuild motor (subject to parts availability) Replacement Motor (used? subject to price/availability?) Convers...

It looks like fragments of a zip tie? Or are these metal bits. Still does the tranny seem frozen. Maybe the junk in the pan is not a sign of a handgernad going off Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Definitely chunks of metal. I played around with the linkage a little bit and don’t think anything i...

Well,

Whatever success I've had was short-lived. I had a few spare minutes today, so I dropped the oil.

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

When you apply torque on the crank, does is move at all or stone cold frozen -- won't budge. Just for yukes, sit on the drivers side, push the clutch in then try turning the crank. Ya, your in neutral but....to eliminate something broken in the Tranie. Well - great news. I just tried your suggestio...

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

Well after a longish winter break (due to work), I was finally able to start back on the Pinz. Removed the starter. The armature does not appear to be locked in the engaged position. Still can't get a 2 foot breaker bar to turn the motor over. Not looking good. I only had time to pull one spark plug...

I know him only as a seller. I will say he is a straight up guy - no BS (although not at all mechanically inclined). I called him last night to go over the symptoms again. He explained it left him stranded a couple of times with this same issue. He would drive it somewhere, park it, go to get back i...

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

Thanks, I’ll give that a shot. I was planning to pull the starter at some point anyway to clean up all the corrosion.

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

Well, not having much luck here. Batteries aren't my problem. It will crank several revolutions (slowly) then die out. BUT, I cannot get this thing to turn by hand. This has me baffled... It's like it has a restriction, or something holding it back.

Thoughts?

"Air filter is fine. No mice remnants anywhere to be found. Hopefully I'll have some more time this weekend to tinker with it." Just to make sure... rodents like the far back right corner in side the fan tunnel. They come from the bottom or through the fan. There is no way to see this but...

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

Well I load tested both batteries, they checked out fine. Put them on a trickle charge to make sure they were absolutley up to snuff. Re-tested voltage at the starter and measured 23.55V. Got a little excited and bumped the starter button to see what would happen. Got about 3 engine revolutions befo...

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

One thing you will find is that a Pinz does not like to sit idle for an extended period of time. They need to be worked to run well. So don't get worried or frustrated, your in the Onion peeling period, one damn problem to solve after another -- but you will get there. Once you get this rig in orde...

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

I did have a hell of a time getting a turn on the crank by hand. I’m going to pull the plugs tomorrow and soak the pistons with some penetrating oil. Repeatedly. Try to soak the cylinder walls. I did measure 18v at the starter not under load. Thoughts on that? Donny 1979 Pinz 710M Located in Southwe...

Re: Sitting 4+ years, checklist for resurrection...

Updated my signature. Tapatalk is weird about settings, since it’s used across multiple forums. I put 2 batteries in. Power to everything so far. Tried to crank it for the hell of it. Starter doesn’t want to turn motor over very well. It made one full revolution at one point. Just bumps it a bit now...
