Re: Alternator Help

Jim - can you dig up the part numbers on the Declo units you used? I am at the point now where I just want to purchase an upgraded replacement but I'm having trouble finding the correct unit from the list I have... all options coming up are shipping from overseas. Hoping the Delco units you like are...

Alternator Help

Sorry for the long write-up here, I want to be clear on my issue as I solicit advice :) 1975 TGB 11 (24v) with stock alternator (external regulator in cab) - Today, charge light came on during normal driving - started to flutter out at higher revs but was not staying out during normal driving (which...

What is the scenario and what benefit does it provide? No snark genuinely curious as I don't understand it in my mind...

Re: CO Intrusion in Cabin

Thanks all - I appreciate your input. One thing I noticed is my existing exhaust system has a flex pipe behind the manifold outlet - the pipes look all stock but when I look at the Tatanka replacements they don't have flex pipes. Should I have a flex pipe in there or no? I know the manifolds can be ...

CO Intrusion in Cabin

Since I take my kids with me on rides and to shows, I put an aviation CO monitor in the back of the truck where the kids sit. If I let the truck warm up with the doors open it 100% will go off after a few minutes. Normally stops when I'm driving around town. I noticed recently on the highway (betwee...

Re: Air Conditioning Planning

I would think 15k BTU would cool the entire interior of a TGB. You might have to pipe some vents into the back for better distribution. My thing would be account for an alternator that can give you 24v and 200 amps. Almost certain the alternators we can source that currently fit a B30 cannot provid...

Re: Air Conditioning Planning

Thanks Vince that was the unit I was looking at when it was mentioned there was an AIO unit with electric compressor. Seems like a nice unit. Costs are pretty high but when you consider installation is pretty much cutting a hole and bolting it on and running a few wires the cost makes more sense. I ...

Aha - that would be the way to go for sure. Probably require an alternator upgrade but that's likely way cheaper than hanging something else off the motor and also cost less HP.

Re: Air Conditioning Planning

Your only real option for a compressor on that B30 would be on the drivers side and even then the 164 and 140 compressors were mounted high. I have considered rooftop A/C for mine as I would not want to try and cram any more in the engine area. I am saving that small space on the drivers side of th...

Air Conditioning Planning

So I have just gotten my TGB. Working out the kinks, but I really do love it so far. As I get more comfortable with the truck and avoiding babying it, I really am enjoying it. Can’t wait to get it offroad. The one consideration I have is A/C. I’m here in the South and spending a day in a dark baking...

Re: 4WD electronics

With my experience on 4WD “failing on” when my truck sees lots of pavement, I’m considering removing all electronic nannies and simply getting another difflock valve and hooking it directly to the actuator - the only nuance is the lever would be opposite the difflocks - “engaged” would be 4WD OFF an...

Re: Front Axle Drag

One brake needed to be backed off - it was creating drag while turning by hand. Doesn’t seem to be any oneway lockup so that’s good. However, now that I backed them off slightly the pedal travels further before the power engages. So I guess I’ll have to adjust all brakes to bring back the good pedal...

Re: Front Axle Drag

Well, I figured out my drag issue. FWD was stuck on! Fuse #2 blew, which takes out the heater and the FWD control, which fails ON - makes sense. Has anyone modified the FWD engagement to a cable pull or perhaps vacuum only - no electronics involved? I mean its smart that it fails locked on but I had...
