Re: What clutch to buy
In the US you can call Sara or Willy at SAV and they have the BMW clutch and all the specs, usually in stock.

Re: 12v rpm gauge on 24v ?
If you have already purchased the gauge and cannot return it for a 24V version, there are quite a few small DC-DC converters that are about the size of a pen or a large pack of matches. They only cost a few dollars. I have a couple backup marker lights that I could only find in 12V LED form and I pu...

Re: Body lift?
Probably far easier to have new seat cushions made and thin them out an inch or two. I have an older version on one side and a newer version on the other. The older version is significantly thinner.

Re: Tachometer with hourmeter
There's a small adapting ring. I remember buying one from SAV and I never got around to adding a tach. It was only $20.

Re: Bad Diode? Charging indicator light on when vehicle is off
I know this is an older thread ... but there's a super simple solution. Take the alternator out and take it to your local alternator shop. They charge about $100 to $130 to rebuild, degrease/paint the entire thing, and bench test. I have 1 that I had rebuilt and then put on the shelf. It looks like ...

Re: Central tube full of gear oil?
I've had a similar experience a few years back ... okay, maybe 6 or 8 years ago. I got the impression that it occurs through increased pressure when you drive at high speeds. It tends to blow oil past the seals, especially if they are older worn seals. If you park on a steep uphill incline overnight...

Re: Starts difficult after one week idle.
Based on the little bit of info, I'm guessing your carb bowls are draining somehow. They will drain in a few weeks normally through evaporation, but it is unusual to drain within a day or two. Mine starts up perfect every single time, but if I let it sit for a couple weeks I need to turn the engine ...

Re: Timing Question...
I had a novel approach that has been working for years. I got on Amazon and bought a "digital"-analog timing light. It has an adjustment to retard or accelerate the flash with a digital readout, so you put it at 8 or 10 and all you have to do it match up the marks exactly on top of each ot...

Re: popping noise
agree with Andre. Sounds like a general tune up might fix the issue. New plugs, check dizzy, check vacuum hoses, balance carbs, be sure throttle bodies are tight to carbs. The only PIA would be a vacuum leak in that tube underneath the carbs. The rest are all easy to get to and check.

Re: Exhaust smoke, oil in one carburetor ?
I rarely go on this site, but I saw your question and here I am ... There seems to be a lack of direction in your line of problem analysis. You need to look for more symptoms and more issues. The picture of your oil spout looks as if maybe you take a lot of short trips. When you take a lot of short ...

Re: Speedometer linkage leak
Super easy fix. In English. If you haven't already done this and finished the repair ... Just disconnect the speedo gear. Note: there's a little pin that you push through to disconnect it. Carefully, very carefully, pull the cable off. There's a little connector and if you drop it inside, you will h...

Re: Can you have 2 24v to 12v converters?
I agree with one of the previous posts. If you are taking your 24-volt source from one point, be sure to use the same points, prefereably a good ground and then straight off the battery or alternator. If the resistance is different using the different 12V items, electrons will take the path of least...

Re: 4wd engagement
Yes, this happens. I make it a point to exercise the systems every winter when I have snow or slippage available. The first time I engage the front diff, when I release it it will not disengage for a long time. After that, it tends to get quicker. Like they said before, probably slightly clogged lin...

Re: 710K failed emissions
Why is anyone having you perform emissions testing on a 50 year old truck? Even if it was at 100% like-new, it would probably not meet today's standards because it wasn't designed and built to those standards. Am I missing something?

Re: 712M won't start. Looking for ideas.
This may sound really basic, but have you ensured that BOTH batteries are good? If one battery is good and the other bad, you might read 24V with a voltmeter, but when you put a load on them as a unit they drop to 3 or 4 V output under that load. I had an issue like this on my winch where everything...
