Hear, hear!
I would be really interested in seeing your modifications. I have a partially completed web site listing some of mine. I am always looking for new ideas!

Thilo Kass http://www.mogsrus.com/ has made up some replacement for the metal partial ring thingie. It has a couple of teeth to keep the mechanism from sliding around. Around $10.00 as I recall.

Jim, Thanks - that is what I suspected. Rebuilding the drive line will be a lot easier now that the body is off. At this point my teenage lackeys are still fascinated with the air powered tools, so they are pretty willing to help take things apart. It is mostly a matter of getting them to fit helpin...

Transmission shaft play
I grabbed the ouput shaft of the transmission at the U-joint. There is some definite up and down movement with attendent small clunking noises. I also found that the bell housing internals are covered in oily grime and the clutch is slipping. I'm planning to drop the tranny tomorrow. Is the wiggle p...

Given that Jim tends to lean to the right, I commend his ability to answer a question that leans to the left... Anyway, from my perspective, as Jim implied, many odd problems arise from poor connections. It is a great investment in wheeling longevity to verify that all of the electrical on your truc...

Norcal, I am a bit behind you with removing the body from my 712. Relying on teenage slave labor makes schedules unpredictable. Did you disconnect the parking brake from the rear and thread the cable through to the front, or disconnect from the front and leave the rear intact? My only mistake so far...

Here is a picture of the cheap compressor I used, in action. You can see the protrusions on the top that fouled the body during installation, and the arc of the bolts that put mechanical stress in places you don't want mechincal stress. http://home.comcast.net/~hillmanpinz/SpringComp.JPG Before I mo...

Erik, It may also be a good idea to find friendly members of the lists you are on who live along the path. I have helped a couple of people I would not otherwise have met, and they would have been stranded. One guy on a British car list posted his itinerary and got quite a list of volunteers to cove...

Chris, This one is about $14.00 http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2004483/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2004483/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=windshield+washer+pump Once you know the current draw @ 12 V, you can probably find a $1.0...
