Sad News for the Pinz World- Herbert Krois has passed

Sad news from the US, Herbert Krois has passed unexpectedly. A fine gentleman and longtime Pinzgauer expert going back to when he worked at the factory on Haflingers as a young man. Then to SA as Haffie agent for the country. Then to the US, and back as the US Pinzgauer representative for Steyr for ...

Re: 710 4x4 compared to 712 6x6

Maybe out west maneuverability is less of an issue, but it the mountains in the SE US it can be an issue. There is also a difference in road speed, if I recall. Without a doubt the 712 has an edge in some off road situations, just more wheels pulling. As to 710 suspension and ground compliance, the ...

Re: SouthEast MogFest 2011 - Registration Open!

Anyone headed for this?

I'm going to try to make it, and will likely be able to get Herbert & Tom (Haffie) to come along.

Any Pinz's planning on attending? (Russ, K-Wayne, M-Wayne?) I was thinking it was president's day weekend and could not make it. There's a chance I could make next weekend though I'd have to finish my exhaust project I stopped in the fall due to knee surgery. That or convince Herbert to come and let...

Alan Sorry ol mate but you are a bit off base on the emissions! I respectfully disagree. You've made quite a leap from guilting us about driving polluting pinzgauers to trying to have an EFI pinz meet post '81 emissions. My original comment stands: "I'd put a properly tuned EFI pinz against an...

I guess now is where we all trot out our horror stories, and play right into the hands of folks like WDOT, etc. Apologies in advance for the mini-rant, but this is a pet peeve topic! Do I get to name the people I know killed in Jeep CJ's? I personally know three KIA's, and more with very bad injurie...

Well if you say so ol' mate! I sincerely hope with all those modifications & expense you took sometime to upgrade the frontal area of the rig in case of a collision. AND I don't mean a silly bull bar! Well, it's not my truck. And I understand the point about impact, but trying to hold 70's vint...

As to doing 85 MPH in a Pinzgauer! Frankly, that is not only dangerous to all other road users but highly irresponsible & childish. Lets hope he stays away from the Rocky Mountain area. Sorry, I have to challenge the blanket statements when it's made about a vehicle few have seen. (Erik drove i...

I am somewhat wondering what Alan is up to? work, work, work, work, send a tuition check, work some more As I saw on another site he went through a brain transplant. Alan care to share? What could you have possibly done to improve what you already had? Just swapped controllers, was testing repeatab...

712 prices of late have jumped considerably; ironically, 710 prices have tanked. Not sure I'd say that 710 prices have "tanked", they are still in the same rough range. Both 710 & 712's saw some inflated values as the auctions ended, and that has come down some. I was a bit astounded ...

You can ohm the wires. Solids should be 1-2 ohms or so. Resistor will be 7-15k, depending on length & mfg. On MB's they were marked, and it was a factory spec. That's how I learned that normal coils were not hot enough for resistor plugs & wires. One or the other. Pre-EFI I ran blue coil, ci...

Alan, are you saying that a 12 volt Bosch blue coil will work on a 24 volt Pinzgauer as long as the primary resistance is 3 ohms? Yes, electrically identical to the pinz coil with military connections. At which 2 points do you measure the resistance? What I'd call the "primary". It will b...

Lot's of good questions, skip if not interested! I was not aware of the 3 ohm "rule" that makes the voltage drop (basic Ohm law) in order to have the right spark for the truck. Yep, that's it. 12-14v in a 3 ohm coil primary is 4-5 Amps. whether fed with 24v and a dropping resistor or 12v w...

Why wouldn't any regular 24 volt automotive coil work in the Pinzgauer? There is not really any "standard" 24v coil, or even 12v coil. Different vehicles have different ballast resistor schemes, etc. The coil used in a pinz is electrically the same as the standard 12v bosch coil used on V...
