Neutralize them. Sand rust down to bare metal. Apply a couple of coats of Rust Bullet or POR15. Rust Bullet works fine for areas that may see sun, POR 15 is sunlight sensitive requiring a top coat. Your choice of colors, black, greay or silver (Rust Bullet). Re-paint with O.D. flat if in an exterior...

Yeah, thanks for the great read. Wonderful overview and I certainly re-lived my trip. Mine was not as full of high adventure with the mechanical because everything just kept working fine!

Well that is fixed. Strange. I had to go meet some neighbors who wanted orchard assistance so I let er sit half out of the garage and the engine heat must have helped out. Six hours later I got in clutched it a few times then started it up. Whaala, gears and it works fine now. Guess all that backing...

Clutch plate frozen to flywheel?

Went to start the Pinz and I can't get it into gear. Pushing on the clutch pedal feels the same as usual but the clutch seems to be frozen to the flywheel. It has been a couple of months since I drove it so I am assuming the two surfaces have melded into one due to the high humidity. Any quick metho...

Ok, Fram is junk. I still fail to understand the mechanism involved here. Inquiring minds want to know WHY would this happen? Come on JerBear, out with the deep facts...

Yup, still reading. Gosh, what a wonderful rambling story. Love it. Kind of reminds me of my trip back with my Pinz...but my trip was non-eventful except for the loss of my speedometer about a third of the way home. I just wrote down the km at the point of death, then added 'em later when the unit w...

So I will go with the frozen air box... but lets think about how that happened? Is the flexible air pipe leading from the heat box ripped, torn, or not connected so you were not getting any of that pre-heated air from the heat exchanger? That led to frozen things. Surprised the carbs did not freeze ...

If you could get a VW TDI diesel in it I will bet the cooling would be real easy. The radiator in the VW TDI is very small. In all the last eight years of owning one (Golf) I have never had the fans come on. The engine is so thermally efficient that it actually takes quite a few miles to get up to o...

Just a poke in the dark here... Have you made sure the manual throttle pull lever is not in locked condition? There are oil/lube access ports on the cables so you could squirt some nice thin lube into them as a second attempt to free them...assuming they are frozen up. I will now turn on the lights...

It has been a long wait. I have a deposit down on a kit. I am hopeful that the remaining cost will not be TOO HIGH to justify the final investment on my part. If it is, I will offer my place to someone else who wants a kit and they can reap the benefits. I will then just struggle with keeping the ca...

The product from McMaster Carr is:

53335 K13, 80mm Poly re-enforced rubber hose, metric, temp. -25 to 275 F.

The insulation jacket is 4463 K145, Un-slit foam rubber insulation, 3 1/8" ID.

I wrapped the ends close to heat source with aluminum tape and it works fine.
