Re: Parking Brake Malfunction...Slipping Handle

Hi Morris! I haven't been on here much lately, but looky who's here too! And a post from Jim M. from back in the day too, but sadly no Jim M. here today. Sorry to hijack this post, but it brought back some memories! Maybe I'll see you again over at Linden Engineering one of these fine days. Cheers, ...

Mark,
To "bump" a thread is simply to add a reply to an existing thread, such as your previous want-ad. By adding a reply, you "bump" the thread back to the beginning of the list of threads. That makes everyone get a "new post" notice, and they'll look at it anew!

Re: The *I Saw Something Funny* thread

Okay. I'll bite.
I took this at a nearby park. It's a Poulan chainsaw being used to hold up a disabled Ford pickup. The plastic milk crate contained some hand tools, but it wasn't supporting the truck at all.
It might be the perfect use for this saw.

Re: Inspection prior to buy, how?

Future, If I was you, I'd post up my location. These trucks are all over, but there's just not many of 'em. If we know where you are, someone may chime in nearby. Believe it or not, most of us are plenty willing to show our trucks to others. You might also find someone nearby who can inspect a truck...

Re: Cleanest way to mount license plate

Often you can drill new holes in the license plate, to fit the existing fasteners on the vehicle. That way you don't alter the truck.

Re: Over filled portal gearcase

For sure, it's a bit of work to pull a diff, but far from impossible. Front is worse than a rear, I believe. So long as you keep lube in the gearboxes, you can indeed live with the leak/s. If the seal/s in the wheel drive fail, the wheel drive lube can leak into the brake assembly area. There's a we...

Re: Over filled portal gearcase

Lube can get from the diff to the wheel drives. IIRC, there are a couple o-rings and/or seals in the diff that keep the fluids in their proper boxes. It's been years since I did the repair, but I seem to recall a seal that had a critical placement when reassembling things. Check your diff level to s...

Re: Harbor Freight spring compressors

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, TRY TO COMPRESS THE PINZ SPRINGS WITH THESE THINGS. Seriously. Even if you survive, the tool will be destroyed. Really, really, scary. They may work okay for passenger car struts, but they ain't Pinz spring-compressors. Beg, steal, or borrow the right tool for a Pinz....
