Re: Transfer case lever/cable connection

Absolutely. For a once off installation I would agree. For easier future access I may still look at a panel. 4 to 6 rivnuts will be easier. The "difficult" part is that the one supportbar cross over the lever. It's on the To Do list. A long one. Now the focus is fixing the air tunnel - before our fi...

Re: Rubbing strip removal

Removal on mine took a while... 4 bolts had to be drilled out, then the rest of the rivnuts all drilled in and new stainless ones installed. Some minor rust to be removed. This was followed by a double coat of POR15 and topcoat. Strips have been re-sanded, and I'll coat with POR again. The stand-off...

Re: Transfer case lever/cable connection

So for anybody else trying to reinstall this lever... It can be done with a small crowbar from the left side of the truck. Remove the exhaust and shield, then play with the leverage and angles. I ended up fitting the bar in, then moving the pivot point (in this case a screwdriver) until the lever pu...

Re: Transfer case lever/cable connection

Thanks - excellent article. I'll see if I can order some from them. I was trying to avoid lifting the chassis - I simply do not have the equipment to do it safely. I removed the lever using a similar technique you described, just two screwdrivers instead of the bars. Reinstalling it is going to be c...

Re: Transfer case lever/cable connection

How did you replace the lever? To drill and tap would have required removing it.
And where did you find the stainless joint and seal? I can retrofit my old lever that way.
I'm tempted to cut another access panel - if it wasn't for as support right above it.

Re: Transfer case lever/cable connection

So, after a 2 hour battle under the truck I got the old lever off. What a pain when the retaining metal strip for the bolt is rusted to it. What is the simplest method to seat the replacement on the shaft? Two wedges between the top of the lever and the bottom of the truck frame? Place the one from ...

WTB: Original military shielded distributor/coil/cables

Before I start assembling a complete set of the above from SAV, I thought I 'd check if anybody here has a set in decent condition.
If so, PM me please with an estimate. No rush, but I' d like to have a set assembled by Spring 2017.

Thx

Re: Coil explosion

Jim I'll measure today with the temporary replacements. If the resistor is fried, it should not be running (and it is) - unless there is a parallel circuit somewhere. I could not find anything on the wiring diagram. 4x4Pinz - You describe what I experienced exactly... The explosion was violent enoug...

Re: Coil explosion

Paul Took everything out - it was indeed the pertonix system. Everything smoked - coil, and pertronix module in distributor. Just melted plastic. Looks like a massive short - it melted the wiring clean off the pertronix module. Installed the replacement set - and had to fiddle a bit with the distanc...

Re: Coil explosion

I'll double check today before I install a replacement.
What is too much? With both batteries independently charged I get about 27V for a short period.

Re: Coil explosion

Judging by the condition, its a Bosch, but not the original mil version. Distributor is the civvy conversion, without Pertronix. Literally melted the stuff inside and blew it all over the insides. Luckily I had the cover and seat out, and could get it out with thick leather gloves before anything el...

Coil explosion

So I'm changing out to the PinzSSI. Ordered all the items from Rick, received, and all laid out in the garage. That said, today I'm working in the front of the Pinz, cleaning out the air duct. SSI install is about item 50 on the "To Do" list. I hear this loud bang, smoke start in the front. The coil...
