Re: Laying out tire and jerry can swing carrier.

Did some more welding, sandblasting and mocking up highlift jack mount today. Waiting for toggle clamp to arrive so I can finish up welding and get it primed.

Re: Laying out tire and jerry can swing carrier.

More pictures. Decided not to use cast hub to weld to. Found this giant nut to machine out. I will incorporate the existing tire carrier into new mount.

Re: would you tow a 712 in a dump trailer?

Dave,
That was my concern with the 14 ft dump trailer, getting to much tongue weight forward and not being able to back it up a bit.
What about back Pinz on?

Re: would you tow a 712 in a dump trailer?

I am looking at a 14 ft 10k gross weight dump trailer. The one I am looking at does not have very high walls 16 inches. Then again the 710 is shorter. Trying to decide on that or 16 foot car hauler. The dump trailer is twice as much and I am not sure I can justify the extra cost.

Re: Laying out tire and jerry can swing carrier.

I am trying to keep the tire carrier under 100lbs and under 100 dollars hence using steel I had available.

Got the flange removed from the hub and used plasma cutter to cut a half circle in swinging part of carrier that will be welded to the hub.
Got the 1.25 inch holes for mounting the spindal sleeve. Boy, that was some tough old American steel to drill through!

Re: Laying out tire and jerry can swing carrier.

For my next part in process I drilled pilot hole for 1.25 inch hole saw to cut in spindle sleeve. I am using spindle sleeve to eliminate a lot of welding heat on spindle itself which could cause it to crack.]IMG_2449.JPG[/attachment] I will cut the flange off the hub then weld the hub to the actuall...

Re: First Oil Change, need opinions

Oil level stayed the same for 150 or so miles I decided to change out the cheap oil I experimented with. I installed some good stuff with new filter from EI. Went 300 plus miles, lots of climbing in 90 degree plus weather ran great no oil burned or increase in oil level.
