Tools for spark plugs
I do not have the original spark plug tools from the tool kit, and am curious what tools are available to remove and reinstall the standard military wires and plugs? I am not contemplating converting to a civ ignition at this point, just wanting to check and clean. While I am not near the 710K at pr...

Re: First Oil Change
Fan nut is 27mm, Loosening with air gun is ok, but you must tighten it by hand. You can get a pin spanner to hold the fan at Harbor freight for a few bucks. Move shims as needed to adjust belt tension, rotate fan while tightening nut to prevent pinching belt. Belt should have 1/2" deflection. ...

Re: First Oil Change
Lug nuts are 19mm and "acorn type" So you have to get them from your local Pinz parts supplier. Torque is around 125 ft lbs. A standard size 1/2" drive breaker bar with 19mm socket will do fine. thanks Jim but was referring to the one on the fan/fan belt in lieu of having no fan hold...

Re: Where can I get rivnuts / nutcerts for the 712M rub rail
Here is what I used. The middle hex part has a thru hole and use a hardened washer on top. hold hex part in place and use rachet to compress nut. Works good if you only have a few of them to replace. I bought metric rivnuts from McMaster-Carr. Hey Scott. Which rivnut did you buy? I am looking at th...

Re: First Oil Change
No tools, including this fan holding tool, came with mine is why I was asking. Sometimes in situations like this, if it is handy, the sharp impact of an impact wrench obviates the need for a holding tool. Not the torque per se but why an impact can remove the lug nuts from a wheel that can rotate fr...

Re: First Oil Change
Had fun with this and all the tips. Thanks. The Aust version has add on seat belt lugs that need to also be removed before the engine cover can come off. Did a minor bit of clean-up while in there, but it really was not bad to begin with. Most things are quite accessible and the filter was on way to...

Re: rub rails again
The following bits I used to replace rivnuts on my 710K (Austrian), and they pretty much match up to the hardware size previously installed. I don't think the original rivnuts are stainless steel (looks to be aluminum to me), but I put stainless steel hardware to replace the originals. McMaster Carr...

Re: First Oil Change
When you lift off the doghouse it likes to hit the parking brake handle if the brake is engaged; I've released my handle pulling out the doghouse! Chock the wheels so you don't need the brake on and the cover comes out and goes on more easily (and safely!). Best tip. Thanks for the crystal ball rea...

A little different but looks right at home, This is a repop of a Hella for a early VW bus http://www.eisparts.com/211947107A.html http://www.eisparts.com/211947125A.html Got one of the Hella 1357 as mentioned and it is the exact light. Widely available - even at Amazon Not sure if this is/was the o...

Re: First Oil Change
Yes, the bag routine - same as many lycoming engines with horizontal filters buried down low. In my younger days disposable diapers did the same trick when they were readily available. Anything else to be addressing with the cover off for the first time that might not seem obvious or "in the ma...

Re: connections under desk
As far as the rooftop heat, it actually goes away magically if the vehicle is in motion, but I don't live in Texas. A roof rack as a second roof would help a lot in that sense. While probably guilty of thread creep in my own thread, one of the other 710K's I was looking at had an original military ...

First Oil Change
I've been working through a lube change progressively over the last week. Boy there are a lot holes drain and fill. I located a filter and this evening I am going to do the first engine oil change. Not having done the pinz engine before, a couple of new questions: 1. Does the dog house indeed need t...

Re: Are these interior lights the same across models?
I received a Hella 1357, which is still manufactured and in the Hella catalog, and it is the exact light (in mine anyway, there's 3 of these in my K). They're about $15 and available from a few sources. Not sure if these are the same in the Swiss pinz. Hella also makes the same light without switch ...

Re: connections under desk
Your Pinzgauer has been an austrian Radio truck. Those electrical installations are all factory installations on the Trucks that were factory refurbished between 1995 and 1999. Your Pinzgauer is missing some parts though. The place under the desk was meant for another battery box (the same as is mo...

Re: Civilian Conversion...worth it?
I am certainly no expert on the pinz, but the plugs and wires are very similar to those on light airplanes and seem to work ok there (maybe that's more to do with 2 plugs/cyl and magnetos). The aviation plugs (typically about $30/per and 2 per cyl) get cleaned and returned to service and serviceabil...
