Re: Different approach to the rev limiter

The 24v Land Rover FC 101 has them as standard on their engines but most owners glue them open as it is really not needed. My Haflinger does not have a mechanical rev limiter so I have fitted one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AccuSpark-Rev-Limiter-for-traditional-ignitions-4-6-8-cyls-/18171602...

Re: Haffy Transmission repair

Go to Jim - even from Aust I have sought his advice and parts and he is exceptional to deal with Just remember that even with perfect synchros you have to slow right down to change down from 3rd to second - almost a stop. So maybe it is something you have to accept - 2nd gear on my vehicle is really...

Re: replacement mufflers?

OEM mufflers do not pop and backfire (through the exhaust rather than inlet)- that is a function of your tuning settings - ignition and fuelling - worse case are valves not sealing on compression and letting fuel mix into the exhaust. Without fixing this any muffler will pop and backfire. Pop and ba...

Re: Are the old weber and NDIX carbs interchangeable?

My Haflinger has a Mog NDIX carb on it but has a Haflinger jet block in it. My engine originally had a Solex 34PBI on which did run ok but was problematic from time to time so I decided to convert to a correct NDIX . I bought a Mog carb and bought a second hand dismantled jet block from Haflinger Te...

Re: Fuel consumption

My only experience with this style of truck is with my Landrover FC 101 - it is of similar size and weight to the Pinz - cruises at 100kph - I get 19l/100km on an easy drive on the highway and in mixed driving about 22l/100km. I guess similar to what you are getting but my vehicle is running a 3.5 l...

Re: Curious on wheel berrings

As John has indicated you dont need to any specialist tools - just a big mallet, a mid size puller, a big screw driver to prise things, a socket set and spanners etc - common to most home workshops. Now you may very well have a dud wheel bearing but they run in oil not grease so they rarely wear out...

Re: Can You Hand Crank A Pinz Gasoline Engine?

Being a mil vehicle of that era I am surprised that there is no means of hand cranking a Pinz. Certainly my Landrover 101 V8 can be hand cranked and I have done it - is not all that hard cranking the V8.

Re: push the 70km/h top end?

When tuned my Haflinger will do just over 90kph flat out - probably a little faster if the windscreen was folded down. I cruise at 70kph and 4000RPM. It has VW barrels and modified 87mm VW pistons taking the engine out to 762cc. Not sure of the compression ratio but is a little more than standard. I...

Re: 4x100 and wobble nuts?

Going from 98mm to 100mm with wobble nuts on a Haflinger would be fine - now I would not consider on something like a Corvette or Ferrari but on a Haflinger no issues. Just make sure the shape/contour of the wobble nit matches the wheel hole. I bought a set of 12" Minilites that I thought were ...

Re: All original FJ40 with 5000 miles!

They are quite common in Australia and still cheap. Prices are quite variable and good ones get a good price but many are like this ($5000USD) or cheaper.

Re: We’re back baby!

Wow Bumber must have got out of bed on the wrong side - maybe a little less agro is needed. However I do agree with his under lying point about the colour scheme and was going to ask the same sort of thing but a bit more diplomatically. I cannot seem to find the area where colour schemes can be chan...

Re: RHD 718's for sale

I don't think it'll be a straightforward deal until about 2030-2033 when they become 25 years old. IIRC the approx 320 Pinzgauers purchased by NZ are built between 2005 and 2008. So unless there is some kind of "special exemption" for importing vehicles newer than 25 years to OZ from NZ Y...
