Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator
kdiqq As far as I can tell your design is based on a single laser cut part, that will be folded and tack welded in the following steps. What is the material you intend to use ? You are pretty much correct! I intend to waterjet instead of laser, just because it's cheaper, but the finished product is...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator
kdiqq an excellent design ! which alternator have you decided to use ? I guess they have more or less standard housing sizes, so I could find a suitable one from eg. Bosch .... Thank you! You are correct, the housing is known as 10SI and there are tons of options. I wouldn't run higher than 90A tho...

Re: Reverse-mount 12V alternator
Please keep us posted on testing and let us know if you decide to do any production. Looks real cool! MM For sure! I'd love to be able to give back to the community. If I can get through a couple of weeks of use without drama and finalize my bill of materials, I'd be happy to run a batch of them. S...

Reverse-mount 12V alternator
After seeing the thread for the alternator solutions, I decided to start up something different. I wanted to add a common, off-the-shelf 12V alternator to the Pinz, but currently the only solution is something over $1000. Rather than just try to do the same thing cheaper, I wanted to get the alterna...
Re: Catch can
I've run UPR on a few vehicles and their quality is very high, but so is price. For the sake of options, here's a link to theirs > http://www.uprproducts.com/universal-bi ... rator.html
I do like that they add a valve at the bottom, so draining is really easy.

Re: Catch can
It would catch the blow-by oil and keep it out of the intake, therefore off the valves and piston top (carbon build-up). I'm not sure one could be installed on a Pinz anyway as there's no PCV valve. Every Pinz is an oil burner. You could definitely install one in place of the line between the oil f...

Re: Different approach to the rev limiter
The 24v Land Rover FC 101 has them as standard on their engines but most owners glue them open as it is really not needed. My Haflinger does not have a mechanical rev limiter so I have fitted one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AccuSpark-Rev-Limiter-for-traditional-ignitions-4-6-8-cyls-/1817160...

Different approach to the rev limiter
So a while back I tackled a really odd voltage issue (after replacing a coil) and I wanted to take out the last 'weak link' in the ignition system. I was getting a little tach fluctuation but my timing light showed really precise firing and advance. Like, shockingly good! The mechanical advance with...

Re: Scary lock-up on motorway
So I can actually think of a way this violent jerk left could happen in the case of the front diff lock engaging on its own. If you have the front left tire underinflated, overworn, or any other condition that would make its effective diameter smaller, when the axles locked, it would begin to pull l...

Re: Stumbling in the rain?
I actually drove in the rain again and my issue is cleared up! Sealing the distributor didn't help, though I still left the vent holes open. Switch from the military coil to the sealed civilian version seems to have to running well. I massaged some of the engine shrouds to better direct rain away fr...

Re: Coil wire for Pertronix setup
Old Beetle wire works, just is a little short. Accel makes a single wire kit that works fine.

Coil wire for Pertronix setup
I ordered a new coil to replace my military unit. I have a Pertronix distributor already but my ignition wire has the military coil end on it. I went to the auto parts store and grabbed the only 12" wire they had thinking it was a standard deal but maybe I grabbed an oddball wire, I'm not sure....

Re: Piston swap question
Thanks for the tips and guidance. I haven’t work d with Circlips before. Any good video showing the process? It's super obvious once you look at them, you won't have any trouble. Piston has a little recess, stick anything narrow in there. Pick, awl, tiny screwdriver, and just pop the circlip out. T...

You have to be a seasoned professional.boeing7873 wrote:How in hell do you post a picture like you did kdiqq?
Or do what was said above. I used SAV diagrams. If they are missing something, usually the service manual can fill the gap.
