Re: Unexpected oil leak

A similar thing happened to me. One morning I found a trail of liquid coming from my front wheel hub. It didn't feel oily so I thought it must be brake fluid. I cleaned it off and waited for it to reappear to see where it was coming from. It didn't come back and was still dry at the end of the day. ...

Re: Looking for a Pinz owner in the south of England

The War And Peace Show is only a couple of weeks away.

http://www.warandpeaceshow.co.uk/

A good place to see a variety of Pinzgauers and talk to owners.

Re: Fuel Pump Lubrication

Roverchef, thank you for your input. I packed grease from the bottom of the pump while it was removed, which would grease the same area so that's good. I wouldn't want to mislead anyone with my tech article. BTW, 2 weeks later the engine is still running fine and I haven't noticed any noise from the...

Fuel Pump Lubrication

I recently wrote an article in the Tech Sessions sharing my experience of rebuilding the fuel pump. Then I received a PM querying my use of grease around the lever and pointing out that the repair manual says to fill the base of the pump with grease, which I didn't do. Can someone clarify this part?...

Re: Fuel Pump Rebuild

The reason it wouldn't come out is that it was held in place by the lever below. I then used a small screwdriver to remove the rectangular side panel: fp6.JPG The compressed spring looks scary but it was easy to dig out with a screwdriver. Looking through the panel with the spring removed I could se...

Re: Fuel Pump Rebuild

Here is the black plastic bit, which guides the push rod: fp7.JPG Before opening up the fuel pump I gave it a quick clean with a paper kitchen towel. In hindsight this was a mistake. I should have spent a few more minutes to clean it more thoroughly which would have made the job a lot more pleasant ...

Fuel Pump Rebuild

I decided to rebuild my fuel pump because every time I left the pinz for a few days without use it would take ages to start. It wasn't always like that and it was getting worse. I'm not a mechanic. This was very much a DIY job. These are the bits I used for the rebuild: A fuel pump repair kit, part ...

Re: Copper Washers vs "O" Rings

I bought a pack of 50 for about the same price as a gallon of petrol. Really not something to worry about.

Re: New Owner

Wow, what a coincidence! My pinz was also delivered on a transporter with a ferrari. I can still remember the driver's words - "I got a lot of funny looks on the motorway. I couldn't tell if it was your thing or the ferrari. I think it was your thing."

Re: Poor braking in reverse

I think they went too far with that design. On a steep incline the pinz can't even hold its own weight on the brakes. I found out the hard way when I had to stop while going up a mountain trail (brown trousers).

Re: Leaking Carbs

I don't know what they're made from but I had a minor leak a couple of years ago and replaced the gasket so they're not the same age.

Leaking Carbs

Both carbs have started leaking badly through the upper gasket. Coincidence or could there be a common cause?

Re: UK 2011 Pinz Meeting

It was a great weekend. Many thanks to Steve for organising it. We had diesel pinzgauers, petrol pinzgauers, haflingers and a land rover or two. I was a newbie having never done a green lane before. One highlight for me was managing to drive my stock petrol pinz through a deep muddy water hole and c...

Re: adjusting the hand brake

When I first tried to remove my hand brake assembly I couldn't undo the bolt that holds the tail cone to the body. Soaking it in WD40 for a week did the trick. I also had to buy a 24mm spanner to hold the nut still. I tried using an adjustable wrench but it was too fiddly and risked rounding the nut...

Re: adjusting the hand brake

I made the adjustment but found that it stopped the light on the dashboard from working. Even with the handbrake fully off the light remained on, so I put it back to how it was. I didn't try to see if the grip improved. I figured that I couldn't drive with the light always on. Krick3tt, maybe it wor...
