Re: adjusting the hand brake

I had the same problem and ended up replacing my disks which were badly glazed. I got an improved grip but still not great. Before the change, with the hand brake firmly on, I could make the pinz move in high second gear with the engine at idle. Afterwards I had to use low range to do the same. Kric...

Re: Pinzgauer TD Models

I also bought that model. It took me 3 years to build it! Mainly because I have a real Pinz parked outside and it just feels wrong spending time on a model when my real one needs attention, which is most of the time.

Electric Pinz

I just spent 50 quid on HALF a tank of petrol and then found this:

The idea of going electric is looking very appealing.

The plastic fitting part way along the choke cable is just a little reservoir to hold a few drops of oil over a hole in the side of the cable. It can easily slide around so its a good idea to make sure it still lines up with the hole.

Thanks for the reply. I know what you mean about the tail cone bolt. I decided to give it a go by gently loosening the bolts to see what would happen, then quickly realized that there's no "gently" about it. I couldn't loosen the tail cone bolt with a 50cm breaker bar and now I've got it s...

Clearance for 710K Tail Cone Removal

I understand that in order to remove the tail cone, I have to lift the body away from the drive train to provide clearance. I have read the procedure in the repair manual (in the brakes section) and the more detailed instructions written by Russell McIntire. They both say remove the tail cone bolt t...

Long shot - they could be very old and failing with age. You can check the manufacture date by looking at the date code on the side wall, usually at the end of the DOT code. Four digits - first two are week number last two are year number.

Good find. Personally I would be reluctant to use them for two reasons.

1. Twice as many nuts to undo every time the brakes need adjusting.
2. I like to keep an eye on the nuts to make sure they're not working loose. Difficult when they're hidden from view.

I had that problem about a year ago. I removed the collar, wrapped a couple of turns of black insulation tape around the column and then replaced the collar. It hasn't budged since.

I don't know if my float levels are set correctly. Carburetors are a mystery to me. The only thing I know about my carburetors is that they are completely black inside. Looking down into them is like looking into a bottomless pit. Hmmm... Now that I've written that I've got a feeling that they shoul...

I don't know if this is the same problem. When I'm off road traversing a slope with the right hand side downhill, the engine cuts out after just a few seconds. Then it's REALLY difficult to get it started again. Once back on the level everything returns to normal. It was suggested to me that maybe I...
