Re: A cage built for the pinz and added a winch

Nice work. The finish looks awesome but... - Pinzgauers already have an integrated roll cage. - The LAST place you want to add weight would be up top in my opinion. - Now your truck is taller and won't fit in as many places as it did before. - Looks heavy. - Now you'll be looking for tree branches t...

Re: Test to troubleshoot charging problem?

Problem solved.

It was a corroded connection in the square white plastic connector of the wiring harness where it comes through the tin engine cover from the alternator

Thanks again you guys..

Re: Test to troubleshoot charging problem?

What voltages should be present (in which places) in a normal healthy truck? Its simple: expect 27-28 volts (give or take a tenth or two) at the battery terminals when the truck is running. Any less and the batteries are not being charged properly; any more and they are being overcharged. You may n...

Test to troubleshoot charging problem?

I searched this site with no luck.

I'm wondering if my alternator is malfunctioning or if it's something else.
What's the best way to diagnose a battery charging issue? What voltages should be present (in which places) in a normal healthy truck?

I have a digital voltmeter...

Re: So..the new Jurassic World teaser is out..

There is a Pinzgauer tour company operating in Hawaii with 712M's. They started at the same time that I started my operation in Colorado (2005). We both got our trucks from the same importer (action mobile) in Arizona. It's good to see that they are still running strong after ten years. But it doesn...

Re: Long downhill descents fouling plugs?

I cannot comment on the reasons but as you know of the issue, just give the engine a squirt of revs every now and then to keep the plugs clear. I have a similar issue with my FC 101 on gas (LPG) - on extended trailing throttle like the situation you describe the metering is not accurate enough to p...

Re: Long downhill descents fouling plugs?

This has pretty much always happened (11 yrs now). I have always used 20W50 and noticed that it happens less when I only fill the oil level to half way on the dipstick. But it still happens.
I guess I'll try a different oil grade.
Thanks again.

I've never heard of a Pinzgauer overheating, come to think of it.

Re: Long downhill descents fouling plugs?

How are the plugs fouled? Oil I would suspect. With the engine on the over-run and little to no fuel getting in due to being off the gas there is not enough combustion to burn the oil that blows down between the valves and valve guides. To add to the problem the engine will be on the over-run and w...

Long downhill descents fouling plugs?

Does anyone know why BOTH of my trucks have the habit of running on three cylinders after a steep eight mile descent?
It's easy enough to fix (pulling and cleaning the plugs) but this is becoming quite annoying.
Ideas?

Re: Bogging, snorting, and just running weird. ???

UPDATE: After checking my fuel lines and fuel pump to no avail (a newly rebuilt pump and newish hoses), I swapped out the ignition coil ... and it solved the problem! I was clued in when the engine starting acting boggy and backfiring as soon as I pulled my finger off of the start button. The start...

Re: Bogging, snorting, and just running weird. ???

No I didn't bypass the filter. It is a brand new see-through style. I could see the fuel moving through the line as it ran off the gas can.

Damn. I was hoping that I didn't need a rebuild. I'll try cleaning the main jets first to see if that does the trick.

I'd also check the spark plug wires for fraying, etc. leading to an intermittent short.
Thanks pcolette!
