Re: Pinzi SSI
There have been some concerns about water resistance with the 4.0 version, which has been reviewed by our engineering department. There is a simple recommendation to prevent this that can be done in an hour for under $20. All future PinzSSI 4.01 ignitions will include these 2 modifications. First, r...

Re: Engine won't idle, runs like crap
I got the carbs back together and the engine is running great once again. I ended up replacing the top gaskets, too. If you ever order top gaskets, order 4 of the tiny pins that hold the gasket in place, just in case you ruin or lose the old ones. Don't use gasket sealer on either side of the top co...

Re: Running rich. How to "lean out?"
I recently set the floats in my Zenith carbs, the needle valves in each took 2-1mm shims. Shims come in .5mm and 1mm thickness. When you add shims, the fuel level will drop 4 X the thickness of the shim. 1mm shim = 4mm fuel drop. I found it easier to measure the fuel level in the bowl while I was ve...

Re: Fuel Solenoids...
I wonder if this 12v version would work. Read the troubleshooting procedure.

Re: Fuel Solenoids...
You could easily install 12v solenoids if you have the PinzSSI ignition. Simply wire the feed into the 12v output of the voltage converter and power the solenoids that way. The solenoids would be turned on and off with the key, just like they are now.

Re: Drip in venturi
Perhaps you have one or more saturated floats and the fuel bowl is flooding. Not difficult to diagnose and repair.

Re: Engine won't idle, runs like crap
You can verify whether or not the coil is firing by disconnect wires 1 and 2 individually. Don't do this with 3 and 4. Running the engine for a few seconds will not damage anything, but running a few miles will. That is why a spare spring is included with a new ignition. The wires will not come off ...

Engine won't idle, runs like crap
I hadn't driven my Pinzgauer in a while and had to haul some tires to get mounted. It didn't want to start, and when it did the idle was terrible, like hitting on 2 cylinders. Like many other PinzSSI owners my first thought was to blame the ignition and call the business for an instant free diagnosi...

Re: Troubleshooting with Pinz SSI
Being a wasted spark system, the engine would lose 2 cylinders if the ignition system was at fault, not one. Something else is wrong, several things could cause this.

Pinzgauer Smog Check with PinzSSI
I am attending a local college taking automotive tech courses, and the opportunity came up to use the exhaust analyzer. This particular unit is used by the State Smog Referee, so it is calibrated and meets California standards. The dyno was not available for use by students for safety reasons, so I ...

Re: Cooling Fan Shims
Try to crank the engine over with a 27mm socket on the fan nut. If you can do it without the belt slipping it is tight enough. If the belt slips at all it is NOT tight enough.

True Value hardware will have screws for a fraction of what SAV charges, and they will do the same thing.

I have been using a 24v Facet pump for over 10 years and will never go back to a mechanical one. I found out that a mechanical pump for a 1971 VW bus will work perfectly, get one from airheadparts.com
