I never carry anything of value unless I plan to stay with the vehicle. There's always the lockable tool box for small items.
In almost 10 years of ownership I have never had a problem with theft. Mostly people want to know what the Pinzgauer is, not what's in it.

This is all you need, or one similiar- http://www.expeditionimports.zoovy.com/product/EPBBL/Power_Bleeder__Euro_Bleeder__Black_Label__Motive_Products.html And 2 quarts of brake fluid to do it right. You will also need some tubing to drain the old fluid out with, and a container. It worked great for ...

I bought the same set from EI, but haven't installed it yet. I think the price is OK, the parts cost more if purchased separately. Plus you're getting the RIGHT parts, which is very important. The clutch assembly is not the area to go cheap or aftermarket, look how many times you are going to use it...

This is what a valve seal looks like
http://www.swissarmyvehicles.com/showde ... 121051100/
Look at the intake valve stem inside the spring and see if there is one. The exhaust won't have any. There is no way to tell from the picture.

I heard that some Pinzgauers did not come with valve stem seals, which could result in oil consumption. These are available for about $30 each from SAV. Buy 4, as they are for the intake only.

Heat may have built up and the seal acted as a pressure relief valve? Check the oil level in the hub, and tighten the seal ring. Not too tight, it just takes a small allen.

I installed a pair of Sears Die-Hard Gold series batteries last year. 7 year guarantee, I think the first 3 years are no charge replacement, the last 4 are pro-rated. Mine show no sign of leakage, and no stuff building up on the posts, even though they have been shaken up quite a bit off road. Since...

I had one of those mounted on my previous 710M, and it was high quality and easily installed. Seems to me I gave $650 for it, or something near that. I've seen a few more on 712s. I could be wrong, but I think Eric Purdom made them or had something to do with it.

I checked with a good friend of mine who is an instructor at Wyotech (Google Wyotech and see), and asked his opinion about using the cooling fan for assisted aspiration. Here is his reply: <Don't screw with your homemade turbo. We had the urban myth-busted at Laramie regarding a leaf blower injectin...

Here's an idea

OK, before I get started, I am not a mechanic, although I do all of my own Pinzgauer maintenance...like that takes a genius. I've owned a 710 for almost 10 years. I removed the air diverter assembly off of the air cleaner, as the climate where I live never requires the winter setting. Now I have a 2...

Morris, I practically fill both sides with engine oil every year or two. The oil eventually works its way down into everything you don't want to rust out, especially all of the front welds and suspension. I'm surprised this isn't part of the Swiss Army maintenance program. I use WD-40 along all of t...

I measured both of my front springs, they are 10 3/8" long including the cups. According to the repair manual, the upper rubber "thing" inside the spring is another rubber spring, it is not solid. The lower part inside the spring is a metal cap, which takes the impact of the upper rub...

Jim, I just measured my front spring for fun, and found it is already at 10 1/2"! Further investigation revealed the front sits low by 1 1/2". I guess I need 2 new springs, $600 for the pair. Oh well, might as well do it right. Once that is done, I'll probably find the rear will sag. I've ...

Jim, is there a special type of spring compressor to use? Or should I say, NOT to use? I was looking at Craftsman tools at Sears recently, they offer a standard type spring compressor which is basically a threaded bolt stock with a notched finger at each end that goes on the spring, with a safety re...
