Re: Part I, the import.

Move to Australia... (but not too close to the coast).

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

What don't you like? Is it the shiny rims or the wooden hubs?

Plus hub drawing for reference.

And the "pimp my ride" rims...

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

Progress on the disc conversion is slow, but there has been some. Hub has been scanned and converted in Catia. I had a friend model up a re-machined hub using Range Rover P38/Disco 2 discs. This part looks pretty promising. Using the standard 8x16 wheels to suit 315/75R16s, the track increase is jus...

Re: Part I, the import.

Bach International is a great recommendation. I know of several people here in Aus that are struggling to get hold of TGB11s for similar reasons to yourself.

Good luck with the importation. :D

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

1st rear axle has a PTO taken from the input pinion and driven over the top of the axle to the 2nd rear axle.
No differential action between the two - fixed drive.

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

Current T/Fer case is part time - dog clutch for front axle engagement (like a series Land Rover).

LT230 T/Fer is permanent - but as I already have CVs in the front axle, this won't be a problem. And with the obvious benefit of improved on-road/dirt road stability.

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

A good point, and one which I have experience of too... when I first got this truck, the vacuum diaphram was a little perished. It took quite some time to figure out... In this version, I now have a warning lamp that will tell me if the diff is locked. So at least I'll be able to see the failure (wh...

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

After having spent many weekends, and still going, clearing up the garden after we had three trees taken down (which including having to move the Volvo off the drive on 5 wheels  - from under one of the trees ). Spent some time on the transfer case shift mechanism, which needs to be a unique ...

Re: Skogen - My C303 conversion & expedition build

Well that's pretty impressive! I've seen some of your posts on LR4x4, but nice to see it here now. I love the idea of the OM diesels, but know very little about them, and their availability here in Aus is pretty much zero. :( I'd love to hear more about the detail of this conversion. So many questio...

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

Correct - brake fluid reservoirs. Two, due to the dual braking system that the Volvos have. Don't fill these up with water! The two caps on the outside at the front - Left = washer fluid, Right = radiator expansion tank. I will need to access the brake fluid reservoirs, and will still be able to man...

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

Just some tinkering this weekend, cut the holes for the switches in the centre panel. I don't have the gauges, so they will wait for the time being. And yes - I added a hinge - and yes - that was a great idea! :D I really wanted to weld the hinge on, but it was beyond my welding ability, so had to g...

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

And now in steel... Stick welding 2mm has been challenging, but pretty happy with the result. Went with steel as this adds some structure to the column. Now the column hangs off the dash instead of being attached to the chassis, adding in this extra stucture sould help prevent unwanted steeing wheel...
