Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

Let's start with an easy one - fuel filler. Time to get rid of the silly tin can.

Aluminum casting from the US, fuel filler/hose from a Land Rover which allows for Jerry can filling without an adaptor.

Re: Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

I really like the Volvo, but there are a few things that bug me about it, which I knew would when I bought it. 1) why is it petrol - needs to be diesel. 2) drum brakes are rubbish 3) needs power steering 4) stupid fuel filler 5) TOO noisy (actually painful!) All of these planned to be fixed, and som...

Ian's TGB13 6x6 (Australia)

Hi All, So taking the hint from the comments in the VW T3 thread about posting in a non-Volvo forum, it's time to start sharing my rebuild here. Well my truck is a Volvo TGB13 Command Cab 6x6, so where to start? I bought it from Sweden back in 2006 and shipped it out unseen. The guy I dealt with was...

Re: Removing steering ball joints

I tried a ball joint separator, a bearing puller but with no success. I eventually bought a pitman arm puller which worked a treat.
Check the size before you buy (this one may not suit).

Re: Fat Fabrications c303 body restoration.

I'm not sure I like the idea of mounting the cage to the chassis as well as the body. The Volvo has the body mounted through Nylon spacers to the chassis, which is a slightly weak attempt at isolating the cabin from the chassis vibrations. On my TGB13, I plan to replace these with proper body isolat...

Re: My build

Hi Steve. Been following your blog and progress is looking really promising. Any thoughts on how you are connecting up the shifters? Thanks for the tip on the gearbox shortening. I too have now grafted the back of a ZF V8 box onto a 300tdi box, and slotted the LT230 transfer case onto the back. It w...

Crumbs! Really sorry to hear that. Take it easy and get well soon!

Truck can wait. We're a patient lot - us Volvo drivers...

Re: My build

Hi Steve,
No idea if this helps, but thought you might be interested anyway - Peter may jump in too as he is often on this forum.

Looks very similar to your set-up.

Cheers.

Re: Fat Fabrications c303 body restoration.

Wow - that is a huge amount of work! Wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) to buy a AluZinc one?

Hi Garry,
Or you could try these...

Not sure how you would go with engineering approvals when cutting up a column and inserting a powersteering servo.

Good luck.

Re: My build

So I'm off looking for a V8 gearbox now to pinch the back end from - good tip! Have you thought of moving the handbrake to the rear axles? I wonder if it is possible to replicate the rear disc onto the back of the Axle PTO? Might save you having to move the cross member, and as you cut the handbrake...

Re: My build

I'm sure you'll get plenty of abuse - there is always an opinion on the "right" engine. As you know, I have a matching plan brewing, so I shall be watching with great interest... For now, just a couple of questions:- 1) Does the V8 bell housing fit to the 300tdi with no modification...

Looking forward to seeing some quality modifications and "toys" for the Volvo. I shall watch this with interest.

Re: Engaging 6x6 under Braking

Interesting... There must be differences in the system between varoius markets then, because there is no clear explanation on how this works. In the parts manual there are 2 switches on the pedal - 20 and 23. 20 is the brake failure warning, turning on permanently if the pedal overtravels (manual re...

Engaging 6x6 under Braking

Hi All, I read regularly that the Volvo has a system where under heavy braking it engages drive to the front axle to avoid the rear wheels locking up. However, what does this? I have read through the maintainence manuals, owners manuals and looked at the brake system diagrams and there is nothing th...
