Speaking of Sand Ladders: ebay has some of the thinner 1.5 inch thick ones. I've used the 2inch wide as a ramp over fallen trees in the 712 (forgot my chain saw- dumb thing to do in the Cascades), but don't think I'd use the 1.5 as a bridge to support a pinz. Still, should offer pretty good traction...

Thanks David, That's why I used the word "modifyed". It would be subject to much greater loads, so would have to be bigger. Probably the best thing I've found for getting out of sand/muck are waffle boards/sand ladders. I've even used them as bridges over trenches. Seem to be common in Eur...

There is an aluminum sand spike (http://www.sandspike.com) that I have used in gravel/sand with great success- with my boat. It's nothing more than a pointed piece of angle aluminum about 18 inches long with a welded ring at the top. It grabs the substrate pretty well though. Pull-out strength is a ...

Hey Andre:
I love the work you did on my truck, and have recieved many compliments. The more carefully I go over the cage and other builds, the more impressed I am with your craftsmanship.
(does this put me in for a future comission?)
Best wishes for your success in Texas!

Took the 712 up into the Cascades yesterday to the Ice Caves. Ran the Webasto continuously 1 1/2 hours up , 1 1/2 hours down for a total of about 4 hours (including gas and snack stops and side excusions). No problems with the heater, even had the rear passengers request to turn the heat down. It wa...

I like the little buddy idea, and probably would have gone that way, had I thought of it. However, be careful of cargo/pets or passenger's clothing getting too close to the unit. We just had an episode of a neighbor who died when his nylon jacket ignited brushing to close to the burner of one. I cou...

I bought a Webasto 3500 from Dennis at Linden Engineering, and Jim Laguardia was kind enough to put it in. $2200 for the heater, $455 for the install. It was a fair piece of coin, but it will run for hours with the engine off and will turn the truck into a sauna if I want. Since we dive in the puget...

Ok, I'll show my ignorance. What does the ballast resistor do, and what happens when it goes bad?

Just got the front 1/2 of my new "toast tweed" insulated top from Tough River Stuff. Very impressed with how it's made! If the rest of the 712 is construced as well as this top, it'll last forever.

New colors and other changes?

I've lost the color changes in the little "bell" icons to the left of the subject headers indicating new posts on the forum.
Is this just my computer, or a change to go with the new colors?
