Re: Transfer case lube

As I noted in my above post, GL5 is fine for use in the transfer case, although I don't know if it has any brass components. I believe the use of GL4 spec oil is only an issue for the transmission.

Re: Transfer case lube

80w90 GL5 is fine for the transfer case. You might be able to get it cheaper at Wally Mart. Lots of opinions on the best oil to use in the transmission. I'm using a Redline synthetic product in mine. Other Pinz owners also seem to like the Redline product. Here's an earlier post on it. http://www.re...

Re: double clutching

You might consider changing out the oil with a synthetic. Some Pinz drivers recommned using a Redline product called MT90 for the transmission. Here's the link: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=46&pcid=7 I replaced the oil in my tranny with the Redline product. Seemed a little quiter a...

Re: Fuel pump issues

Fuel pump may be in need of a rebuild. Typical symptom - vehicle sits for some period of time and pump loses suction and is unable to pump fuel from the tank.

Rebuild kits are available from forum sponsors such as EI. Rebuild is a relatively easy task.

Re: Front bumper fabrication

SAV has original Pinz one-piece bumpers with guard for sale. Anybody have experience with these? Are they strong enough for a tow bar, winch, etc? Here's the link.

Re: Front bumper fabrication

I'd like to get an EI bumper as well - it looks good! Did you cut the hole in the bumper to retain the pin access, or does EI do that? Where did you get the mesh headlight guards?

Re: Speedometer Problem

SAV has VDO programmable e-speedos listed for $100. Is this the model some of you have used? There was a VDO e-speedo for a Pinz listed on Ebay recently that sold for $231. Other than the scale and face color, I wonder what the differences are to justify the large price difference? I haven't attempt...

Re: New Pinzgauer 710M (valve cover gaskets)

Easy job. Remove the in-cab engine cover and the bolts securing the valve cover are readily accessible. I had a similar leak and replacing the gasket took care of it.

Sounds like it might need a fuel pump rebuild. Easy to do. Rebuild kits are available from one of the forum sponsors such as EI.

Re: Tough to turn

Second thing to check is the oil level in the steering gear box. There are two fill locations on the steering gear, easily accessible from inside the cab. The manual illustrates where these fill ports are. If you don't have a manual, look at the steering gear box at the bottom of the steering column...

Speedometer Problem

The speedo needle appears to be stuck. When in motion it stays around 60. At stop, it might move down to 40. I disconnected the cable at the back of the weird 90 degree adapter thing, and turned the exposed piece on the adapter and got the needle back to 0. Now, the needle doesn't move at all when i...

Re: Damn rust! Preventive maintenance fail!

Any suggestions as to what equipment/fittings to use to spray or inject the rust preventive material into the body through the body cavity holes? I thought I'd try a Waxoyl substitute that's made by mixing some wax toilet bowl rings with minerals spirits and 30W oil.

Had a similar problem. I rebuilt the fuel pump and no more difficulties. It's relatively easy to do. Rebuild kits are available from one of the site sponsors, Expedition Imports as well as others.

Re: what are the best tires

The Rio Puerco valley, west of Rio Rancho has some good wheeling areas. Probably the closest area to where you are.
