Re: Using simple battery switch to charge house circuit?
Nothing wrong with a simple switch, that is what I use. The only real concern to keep in mind, is you must remember to turn it off at night! Very easy to forget and find in the morning not only are the house batteries run down, but the engine ones too!! With that in mind, I invested in an expensive ...

Re: Engaging the 4WD
What Vince said is most important, road speed is almost irrelevant (can't really think of a reason you'd want to move any of the levers at high speed anyway) The point is, all the wheels must be revolving at the same speed and heading in a straight line. If I get caught out on a long hill climb and ...

Re: "Banging" sound when starting?
Hmm, that's a worry. I fear I am having a similar issue with the pinion meshing. I'm still trying to work through it and will talk to Scott at EI further to hopefully resolve it.

Re: "Banging" sound when starting?
Any update on this starter problem? I am having possibly similar problems with one of these new style starters from EI. Would be interested to hear if you resolved yours and what exactly the problem was?

Don't know the part number, but my local bearing supplier had them on the shelf when I wanted some.

Re: a technique question.......
One problem we found in Iceland was that prolonged water crossings soaked the hub brakes making them ineffective, constant left foor braking eventually dried them out but often not before either a steep descent or the next water crossing! Sure does, and you want to hope the water doesn't have a ste...

Re: a technique question.......
Here in Tasmania we have not much but deep muddy holes. Unless I know the hole or have just seen someone go through it, I will always go low 2nd at first. Low 3rd is good for a bit of momentum and is sometimes needed, but with it comes more speed and if there is a rock in there, you risk damage. Als...

Re: Pinzgauer Tasmania
Hi Gary, You know the 2 headed Tasmanian's is just a story they tell Mainlanders to try and keep you all way. Wouldn't want you all discovering what an amazing place Tassie is :D Haf-e, the spare wheels hinge out from the LHS on a couple of heavy duty hinge pins I made. Far too heavy to lift up with...

Pinzgauer Tasmania
Hi all, Just a link to a short video I put together of a recent trip I made in my 712 upto Northern Tasmania. A 2 day trip through some of the best scenery and tracks in this State. The track has something of a reputation, but the Pinz handled it all (well most of it) with ease! https://www.youtube....

Re: rims and tires
Test fit them on my pinz - no problems. Can't imagine that a 15 inch rim would clear the tie-rod ball joint BTW. I checked the backspacing again - looks like they sit further out by 1/2 of an inch / 12 mm. 15 inch fit, I put the 15 inch ones on off my work Transit for a test before buying the 16 in...

Fantastic, cheers! I've already broken one homemade tool and close to breaking the second. No wonder if I'm tightening it!!!pinzdriver wrote:It is a left hand nut.

Transfer box flange nut
I have an oil leak from the transfer box input seals and I'm having trouble getting the flange nut off. I have the style with the slotted nut with 4 cutouts in it, not the type that has a washer with two bolts through it that I've seen in the manual. Can anyone confirm if this nut is conventional ri...

Re: rims and tires
Ian, have you noticed any change in steering behavior with the different offset? Is bump steer is increased over the stock wheels? Really happy with the wheels/tyres. Steering felt a bit different on the road, but not in a bad way. I also replaced worn track rod end joints, re-shimmed the relay lev...

Re: rims and tires
New wheels (and rubber too) in place. These are the 2015 Ford Transit Custom rims 16". 60mm offset which must be a bit more than the original as they sit out about another 1/2 each compared to the old ones. Take a standard off the shelf wheel nut with a 60deg taper. Also the 15" transit ri...
