Re: Power steering
Most of the power steering installations I've seen involve a pulley-driven hydraulic pump and hoses. There was an interesting post on the german pinze site where an owner installed an electronic power steering setup and was very pleased. He ordered it from this site: http://translate.googleuserconte...

Re: My Pinzgauer is undergoing a civilian face lift
Peter, this is freakin' awesome! I appreciate bone-stock for collectors and purists, but imagination, creativity and fabrication skills are why some of us love working with older vehicles as well. I too have extremely fond memories of my 67' Westy, taking it places I probably shouldn't have gone and...

Re: Tapping the stock jerry can to provide fuel to my heater
Will, I installed a round spun-aluminum fuel tank up between the rear wheel set, plenty of clearance even with bigger tires. Fuel opening is flush with the seating surface with the seats folded down. Even though the tank is not hugh, the heater is so effiecient with diesel that one tank should last ...

Re: broken wheel lugs
They are splined and pressed in. Soak them well with penetrant, bang them to break up the rust and press them out.

Re: Big Bear california
Love it! Happened to me in Moab, although not towing a trailer. I went with some jeepers, friends of my son. When I showed up with my 712, got the usual "just what do you call this THING anyway", and sighs and predictions that they would probably have to "drag" my ass back to tow...

Re: heater solutions
Will, I used a portable propane heater that screws onto a small bottle, and it sits in a "cupholder" on my dash. Worked well to warm up the cab on cold winter days, but I was also worried about it tipping over and falling into the riders lap or something. Some use this setup as golf cart h...

Re: More LED/flasher gremlin questions
FIXED! THANKS JIM! The ground was loose and I also removed the resistors that I thought I needed, and now am getting a good flash rate even with the headlights on. Now I can pass inspection and get back on the road. Jim, you are a MAESTRO, master mechanic as they would call you in many central ameri...

More LED/flasher gremlin questions
I've found with the Pinze that sometimes it's two steps forward...but one step back. I installed led's in the back AND the front, installed a new 24v GROTE electronic flasher, and resistors on the front led's. The 4-ways worked fine (but very fast cycle), but no turn signals (I'd had problems with i...

Re: Where to install oil temp sender?
OK, Solved! I pulled the thermostat/oil cooler and found a "bung" (thick casting) just below the port for the oil pressure sender light. Man, that thermostat is MASSIVE! I was barely able to fit the oil temp sender into the hole I drilled and tapped, and the guage is working great. Needed ...

Where to install oil temp sender?
I'm installing my guages and can't find a good location for the oil temp sender. An older post suggested in the thermostat housing, but the probe is too big.
Suggestions?
thanks,
Michael

Re: Damn rust! Preventive maintenance fail!
That sucks! I fought the same symptoms over the years with many failures and some successes. Yes, you need to remove and replace unsound metal, then provide suitable coatings to ensure that the rust does not reappear. The problem with the spaces you describe are the seams, where the rust is in the s...
