That didn't even sound very loud without the muffler!

Re: Wow wow wow - very rare opportunity for someone 710k US

That is likely one of the few European upmarket civilian campers built. The TCS (Touring Club Schweitz) sticker and those by the radio look age correct and not something you'd see in the US or if it was a copy. Not sure about the linoleum or carpet choice?!

Re: Can't find vaccum leak. Backfiring, missing on accelerat

Does this magically fix itself for a while and return in a few months? If yes, I'm chasing the same thing. Ran horribly last fall, ran horribly this spring, drastically improved one day and was flawless all summer. Now it's back again... dropping the fuel tank this weekend to see what lurks there.

Re: Clutch issue

I replaced and torqued the bolts per the manual. Torque them once, then slowly tighten them another "point" on the hex head. The 240 ft/lbs note is from another post by Jim L. for comparison only. I don't have any way to measure the final torque value that high and wouldn't go straight up ...

Re: Clutch issue

I used a simple aluminum bar with two bolts to the flywheel. It blocks against the studs on the engine block. I have a clutch rebuild thread somewhere here with pictures.

Re: pinzguar712

This sounds good. I did the math with 1mm and calculated about 9:1 CR. Thank you. Have a good recovery.

Re: pinzguar712

I would think that 1.5mm difference could be accommodated by the rocker adjusters. Not to hijack the thread or belabor the point, but I've seen some valvetrain damage on VWs where the pushrods geometry is altered that amount. Valve stems can wear differently. I was planning to shim the rockers 1.5m...

Re: pinzguar712

btw I had 1,5 mm removed from the cylinder head bottom surface when I decided to redo the heads. The result was noticeable. Bear in mind that you have to modify all mounting holes for the engine cover parts. I've been considering this exact thing. Did you have to alter the pushrods to compensate fo...

Re: Clutch howl after getting wet?

I don't know of any "inspection Cover" on a Haflinger that allows you to view the clutch - there is a drain plug at the bottom of the bell housing which if left open when fording water / muddy water would allow that liquid into the bell housing and so contaminate the clutch plate, fill th...

Re: Clutch howl after getting wet?

You were probably pretty deep and got something in through the inspection cover. Make sure the cover is still there. I don't know if that would actually damage anything because it would sling off the clutch and pressure plate while you were driving.

I know it's no longer "manly" to drive a station wagon so call it an SUV if you must.

Grease gun rebuild!?

This might be too basic, but it took me a while to remember in the shop yesterday. The Swiss grease gun is really nice actually- the top has a filler valve, air bleeder valve, and the ability to clean out the ball bearing valve. In my case, all of those were full of ancient grease and I'm wor...
