Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive
One step closer to nailing that then  In your case it would be a failed O-ring that is just giving up the ghost. One other thing to try that is less invasive than attempting an O-ring replacement, is good'ol RTV -- as a temporary measure and to verify. Just remove the valve cover, clean thorou...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive
Minor oil leaks can be very hard to track down. If you look back at the PIX I posted that leak took me over a month to find. It may look very obvious in that PIX but looking up at that very same spot with the naked eye I could not see any oil. that PIX was taken with a high intensity LED endoscope. ...

Re: royal purple or amsoil oil filters
Don't know about Amsoil, but I go here for interchangeable parts, a source to trust. http://www.goatwerks.com/interchangelist.htm The other place to look is what Scott sells, he's a stickler for quality, Mahle OC54. To me Mahle and Mann are one of the same. Mann W940-29 is my pick. The thing to note...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive
I just realized I left a cliff hanger here and didn't detail the steps to replace the O-ring  First you need a tool to push the return tube into the Head. A 5/16" x 4" fully threaded bolt will do. Round the bolt head so that it just fits inside the tube but leaving a 1MM to 1.5MM sho...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive
Well one explanation is that a leak from the oil return tube getting to the exhaust port will "well" up oil between the head port to the exhaust flange as there is a compression gasket in there leaving a bit of a gap. More oil than one would think can collect there -- I have seen this myse...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive
With respect to the leak associated with the exhaust stud, hard for me to be too conclusive here, but it does look like there is a bit of oil weeping at the Head side of the oil return tube. There is an O-ring at that end, in fact the only O-ring for all tubes. However, you did mention that you see ...

Re: Fuel Seeping From Carburetor Top Plate Metal Plug
Is there a missing copper washer here or one that needs to be annealed?
Can't be an NPT fitting then y'd need fuel safe thread sealer.

Re: Leak from square plug under dash
No need to disconnect the hydraulic line, there's a bleeder valve on the Slave. Flush liberally! I flushed all my hydraulic lines this winter to find a fair amount of crud in the clutch system, took over a 1/2 a bottle to clean that out. A lesson learned to flush regularly e.g. once every two years....

Re: Top carburetor gasket too small
You want to flood that gasket with "live steam" Older movie buffs will pick up on that one
I'd use a Stove top steamer that fits inside a pot a flood those gaskets like your steaming a
pot full of Mussels. Give it 5 to 10 minuets and see they are soft and pliable.

Re: Top carburetor gasket too small
For cork gaskets steam them, once soft then put them in place and allow to dry. This is typical of the valve cover gaskets, I had a set that shrunk and needed to be reshaped -- as per Jim L's instructions. I presume your gasket is off by only a small amount and not a more than normal shrinkage would...

Re: WTB: Headlight Switch - Military Style knob
You should be able to find a replacement knob with a Allen set screw. You could try Murphy's Junk since your in San Diego http://www.murphyjunk.net/ They have a wealth of surplus industrial, commercial and Military stuff, inc switches of all kinds. There's got to be something in their aisle of parts...

You pay a heck of a lot more for the brand name and all the people who mark stuff up along the way versus the quality of the product in the can  Here's Gillespie's WEB site, as you can see they are all about coatings for industrial applications http://www.gillespiecoatings.com/default.aspx . Re: Paint color help
Several people I know who have restored Military vehicles have used and recommend Gillespie Coatings paint. It's defiantly for heavy duty applications. The go to distributor is http://www.rapcoparts.com/index.html . I rattle canned a Sankey trailer with 686 Tan, came out great, very durable, and ver...

Re: SAV Mirror Bracket install and operation
The "detent" is a great feature of these mirrors esp. if you trek in weed-whacking territory. I always flip them back to the front windshield when on the trial. You set where you want the detent to be in the open position then just flip them back from there. The only grip I have is that un...
