Re: Portal boxes drain and fill threads sizes?

Well in lieu of a response or Haf-s parts manual, what you might want to try is find a soft wood dowel that is slightly larger in diameter than the peak of the thread cut and screw that in. Then get your trusty Harbor Freight caliper on as many thread marks as you can then divide by that number for ...

Re: pinging / knockin

Pre-ignition case, possibly too much advance (at RPM) or running too lean.
I'd be more suspicious of the advance, and more worried about running lean :?

Gads, that's mighty weird, looks like yellow paint  Wonder if that's what you
get with a blend of Diff Oil and Hydraulic fluid? What's the fluid level look like for
the lockers?

Re: more oil dripping than i would like

As mentioned the push rod seals where they come out of the block - engine out but only because the bodywork prevents moving the barrels/heads far enough out of the way. The thick rubber seals will normally be split so you can see if they are damaged. Well now I finally got the point on "can't ...

Re: more oil dripping than i would like

No, you do not have to pull the engine out, it can be serviced in place. It's not hard per se, but there are numerous techniques involved to re-seal properly. And if you are torn down with all jugs out, you then want to think about the condition of the rings and cylinder wear. IMHO you want to do ev...

Re: more oil dripping than i would like

Can you be a wee bit more specific on where you are seeing the leak(s)? There are numerous places leaks can develop and I can tell you from experience, unless they are gushers they are not as necessarily easy to find as one might think. Send a PIX of the location for starters. Can you quantify how m...

Re: First Oil Change, need opinions

Hmmmm, well this is a wee bit of a different situation then, given the oil was relatively fresh before you changed it. A 4% concentration of fuel in the oil is then significant, that's in the ballpark of 1/2 a pint. Was there any indication of a problem on the diaphragm of the old fuel pump? For thi...

Re: First Oil Change, need opinions

BTW it's not like you have a lot of fuel in your Oil, it's about 2X above limit ASSUMING your oil was changed at a reasonable tempo. If it was, acceptable level is <2% by volume. Your almost 4%, that could be expected if the last oil change was 6K to 8K miles. You may also want to do a compression t...

Re: First Oil Change, need opinions

Recent posting one of the forum members had. He noticed a fair amount of gas in the oil which was due to a leaky diaphragm on the fuel pump, Might want to dig into that one. I believe the Calcium and Boron levels are indicative of a detergent based oil. The Iron levels are pretty darn low -- which w...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

One step closer to nailing that then  In your case it would be a failed O-ring that is just giving up the ghost. One other thing to try that is less invasive than attempting an O-ring replacement, is good'ol RTV -- as a temporary measure and to verify. Just remove the valve cover, clean thorou...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

Minor oil leaks can be very hard to track down. If you look back at the PIX I posted that leak took me over a month to find. It may look very obvious in that PIX but looking up at that very same spot with the naked eye I could not see any oil. that PIX was taken with a high intensity LED endoscope. ...

Re: royal purple or amsoil oil filters

Don't know about Amsoil, but I go here for interchangeable parts, a source to trust. http://www.goatwerks.com/interchangelist.htm The other place to look is what Scott sells, he's a stickler for quality, Mahle OC54. To me Mahle and Mann are one of the same. Mann W940-29 is my pick. The thing to note...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

I just realized I left a cliff hanger here and didn't detail the steps to replace the O-ring  First you need a tool to push the return tube into the Head. A 5/16" x 4" fully threaded bolt will do. Round the bolt head so that it just fits inside the tube but leaving a 1MM to 1.5MM sho...
