Re: Trailering a 710?
As originally stated, I'm not looking for an analysis of optimal tow vehicles, but rather people's individual experiences with what they've used and how the experience was for them. Thanks all for the suggestions of buying a Ford pick-up. Towing, like flying, is all about knowing your limitations an...

Re: Pinz Fluid summary
I know people get almost religious about some of these gear oil specs and advocate the fancy lubes, but has anyone *actually encountered* any failures in the drivetrain components that could be attributed to failure of the lubricant to do its job? I'm not talking about lab tests -- I'm asking about ...

Re: O-ring for leaking plate?
It's clearly gear oil. I'm going to replace the o-ring on this shift fork guide pin, which means removing it and re-installing it. I'm told as long as the transmission is in neutral, it can be safely removed completely and re-installed. Have others done this and agree? I don't want to have to pull t...

Re: WTB: Carb Rebuild Kit (early / small idle screw)
Make sure all shut off solenoids are working. Seems like those are easy to change later, and that I'd have run-on issues if one wasn't working. Throttle shaft seals would be helpfull but they are also out of stock. Those sound important -- this one? https://swissarmyvehicles.com/pinzgauer/01-40-70/...

Re: WTB: Carb Rebuild Kit (early / small idle screw)
I'm looking for the same rebuild kit (small inset idle screws), but SAV has two options which are each a different mix of parts. And one is out of stock. Are either of these two kits all that's needed for a full carb rebuild, or there other parts I'll want during the rebuild? My core issue is I'm se...

Trailering a 710?
Most of my off-road adventures require a drive of 400 miles or so to reach the fun parts, and I'm exploring the options for towing the Pinz. My assumption is that a trailer is best, so that's my initial path. I can always fall back to driving it there as well, but the Pinz wasn't made for long highw...

Re: Any tricks for removing rub rails?
I feel really lucky now that all of mine came off without issue. I sanded down all the rails, and painted them flat black, and replaced all fasteners with stainless steel bolts and washers. Anyone know what kind of wood was originally used? A friend of mine guessed teak. IMG_20200430_101455 (Large)....

Re: Factory Seat Straps
So...I've just replaced several of these, with and without a helper. With a helper is much faster, but both are doable. With a helper: - Remove old strap and two end clips - Take about 6ft of 12-14AWG wire extracted from some scrap Romex -- use white or black, but not ground - Snake the copper wire ...

Re: Gas heater debug
Thanks, folks.
In my case, when I pull the dash control out to the second detect, the fans shut down and I just hear a few bits of ticking sound before silence, which I presume that is its fuel pump. Would I expect the heater's fans to shut down with a fuel pump and/or line issue?

Re: Questions - new to Pinzgauer - about to maybe purchase 710K
I've driven an FJ Cruiser since they first came out, and find them very capable off-road -- and there is room to sleep in back unless you're taller than 6'4". I'd not write them off. But I also added a 710 to the stable because, well, it's special. Incredibly capable, but very narrowly designed...

Agreed. If you're really worried, you'd safety wire them, but I'm with rmel, with proper torque and lockwashers they're not going anywhere.

Re: Removing the passenger side windows - problem
Same issue on my left-side-front door -- lots of adhesive holding the lower U-channel in placed, and gluing the z-shaped retention strip in place (the one with five bolts). Just required pulling out pieces of the lower U-channel and working a thin putty knife in the gap to separate the retention str...

Re: Engine Oil Level Too High
Re-opening this thread since I have a similar issue. @bbolander, are you sure the original fuel pump was not at fault? Early in the thread you said you saw fuel underneath it upon removal, but then later you felt the choke-plate misadjustment was the issue and you thought the pump was fine as were g...

Re: O-ring for leaking plate?
Fair points.
I spent some time cleaning things pretty dry so I can see where it's originating from. Of course it's like finding the source of a leak in a roof -- it can be anywhere from the observation point upward. And yes, hopefully it's just extra assembly lube.
