Re: Truck died
A follow up: Ran out of gas and once again really had to struggle to get fuel pump primed. Thing does not like to pump air! Did the trick of filling the bowls through the vents and that worked. Also stuck the filter on the suction side in a cut off pop bottle filled with gas. When I cranked it (runn...

Re: Starter and mount
Pinz is back together and running. New gear reduction starter spins motor faster and starts the engine quicker. Did run into one small problem that I want to warn others about: the passenger side top fastener for the starter mount goes into a blind hole on a little bracket. Be careful your cap screw...

Re: Starter and mount
Just heard back from EI. The starter, which I bought years ago, is from a batch that had the flange put on incorrectly. It is an easy fix. Remove two screws, rotate flange, install two screws. EI has given great support.

Re: Starter and mount
I toook a look at it this afternoon. The rubber adapter had pulled apart and the starter was forward of where it should be. I tried putting the starter and mount together on the bench and something is not right. I sent pictures to EI. Hope to here from them soon. So far they have been very supportive.

Starter and mount
What are the signs and symptoms of a bad starter mount? I think I have one. had a problem with my starter. Occasionally it would do nothing when the button was pushed, but if I rocked the engine it would start. Occasionally it would spin but not grab. I tried a new starter, the Ei gear reduction sor...

Re: High idle speed.
Yes. Should have mentioned that. I was setting the idle with the linkage disconnected then adjusted the linkage not to disrupt the balance. The linkage is not the problem. Also tried disconnecting accelerator pump linkage.

High idle speed.
I was balancing the carbs on my. Friends truck yesterday and could not get the airflow down on one of his carbs. Even with the idle screw backed out until it did not touch there was a lot of air going down the carb and the idle was fast. Cold start device was all the way off. It was like something e...

Drip in venturi
I was balancing a friends carbs when I noticed gas dripping into the venturis out of the crossbars. This would be gas’s coming from the air jets. The idle was a bit high, but I have never noticed this on my truck. Has anybody seemed this? The truck was running well at the time, but has had intermitt...

Troubleshooting with Pinz SSI
When a truck appears to be running on three cylinders I usually pull plug wires off one by one to see which cylinder is not working. With Pinz SSI you can damage the system by running with a plug wire disconnected. Is there another way to see which cylinder is not working.

Re: Truck died
Truck is back on the road. It was the fuel pump, though I am not 100% sure what about the fuel pump. I put a “good used” one on from my buddy’s pile and eventually got it running. Learned a bit in the process. First is the pump is not so great at primming itself when cranking. My suggestion to anyon...

Re: Fuel Tank Drain Plugs
I doubt if penetrating solvent will do much good as the threads are on opposite side of the seal ring. Can you get a pipe wrench on it?

Truck died
My truck quit yesterday going up a hill and I am looking for pointers. Ignition seems good but not getting fuel to carbs. Upon inspection there is no suction on the intake of the fuel pump while cranking. I took the pump apart and it seemed ok except there was some corrosion under the top cover that...

Re: Airing down with factory wheels & tubeless tires
I have the aftermarket aluminum wheels and have put Coyote inrernal bead locks in them. I go down to 10 psi. Before I put the bead locks I had trouble at 15 psi. I would drive mud and pieces of wood between the bead and the tire. I really like the internal bead locks.

Re: Compression ratio
I think our 87 AKI fuel is about 92 RON. It should be good for about 8:1 rather than the standard 7.5:1. It sounds like the easy way to do it is Jim's kit.

3 wheel brakes?
I suspect one of my rear brakes is not working. I noticed my brakes are not too strong when backing down a hill. I adjusted them today and the left rear did not need adjusting. The others did. The cylinders are 4 or 5 years old. Maybe one has seized. I am trying to think through how to inspect it. I...
