Re: The Al-Thalab (Land Cruiser)

In the "Telegraph" article's first picture, they seem to have both versions of the Al-Thalab (the one shown by Vince and the one shown by David), which, if I am not mistaken, are based on different generations of the Toyota pick-up (which may well be very similar underneath the sheet metal...

Re: Stopping water from entering through doors.

Would you post a picture of your J channel install Would like to see it Thx Sorry for the late reply, here is one picture, from the front right of the truck (I just pulled the grey cover for the picture), and the door top is off the truck: http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss359/JanC25/IMG_02671.j...

Re: Need help understanding new winch solenoid

I expect that the newer systems do not necessarily expect that the solenoid will be "grounded" through mounting, so they've added an additional ground wire to the solenoid. This way everything will work even if the solenoid is mounted to some plastic somewhere. After all, most everything ...

Re: Stopping water from entering through doors.

I love the J channels, though i would go longer front and rear I have J channels (aluminium profile, painted the same color as the truck) above my doors, they do work great, especially when the doors are open. But I still have water pooling in the window channels, and rust build up right where both...

Re: Stopping water from entering through doors.

Hi Newfisher, My doors are getting rusty from rain entering them (the top of the outer skin of the doors' lower half, especially), so I am looking into drilling similar drains as you did. I usually avoid drilling holes in the truck as much as possible, but it seems a case of small sacrifice / big po...

Re: Bridging plates

Hmm, well what was originally fitted on the bridging plate area, then? I find it hard to believe that it was left as a shiny silver piece of metal, and it surely wasn't the red and white swiss army flags that some people like to put on theirs. This is surprisingly hard to find info on. The "sh...

Re: AAA says cheap, off-brand gasoline is bad for engines

Do we trust this message? AAA is a for profit organization... I would think yes, and exactly for that reason: AAA operates roadside assistance, in the form of insurance (pay a fixed membership as premium, get towed when needed a certain distance a certain number of times). So I would assume they ar...

Re: Leno's Garage

Then I assume you also already heard that Jay was in a roll-over accident with Bob Riggle in the old Hemi under glass, just the other day? http://www.autoblog.com/2016/06/26/jay-leno-rollover-crash-hemi-under-glass-video/ The old guys are fine. The Cuda, not so much. Pinz-unrelated, but enjoyable t...

Re: need help pricing a 712M

It's ex-swiss and I doubt it could be a fire truck in any case. Also notice the tranny cover area has been modified a lot. Dash, etc. is all mil. Swiss. I would agree with this. The "bleifrei/unleaded" green sticker next to the steering wheel was added by the Swiss military. Also, firefig...

Re: Theft-proofing a 710 ???

Dalmatians yes, useful, being an ex-Ridgeback owner I'd personally go for a Ridgeback, though I hear that the only totally reliable dog for defensive purposes is a female doberman. But sadly a dog is a big responsibility that I can do without at the moment. You got me there. I visited some folks wh...

Re: ideas for mounting hi lift jack to rear?

Jan had a good mounting solution that put the bulk of the weight towards the rear and kept it out of sight too! I think you could spin it and have it towards the rear roll bar vs the front one http://real4x4forums.com/PinzgauerBBS/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6897 Actually, the way mine is mounted, I b...

Re: Pinz 4x4 Driving on Narrow European Roads?

I'd say that with a Pinz 710's dimensions (except height, most underground city parking will indeed be too low), and the fact that it turns on a dime, you will be better equipped than most modern station-wagons or SUVs. Any modern SUV will be stuck before you will be, as anything the size of an Audi...

Re: Soft Top installation

Quick side question - Paul, did you have TuffRiver make up that bimini top? ...or is it just the TuffRiver top with an extra zipper all along the roofline, that lets you remove the side and rear panels...? by the way, congrats again on your dog containment nets. They're on the to-do list for when I...

If you check some recent threads about alternate wheels, most of them have a wider track than stock. Not the same impact on the wallet as a set of spacers, though...

Re: Not really a 4x4... Sherman Tank

I was surprised to see a diesel inline-6, I thought all Shermans had radial engines, which made me look up the different variants and engines (including a Chrysler 30-cylinder! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_A57_multibank). Must be fun to drive, but I wonder if the fun doesn't go awa...
