I did not hook up anything to the light area of the new guage. The reason is the old light had two wires going into a, what I call spade connector, and from there to the socket which had rubber material around it. The question is: are both of these black wires hot? The stock Pinz lighting circuit d...

.what happens if I pull the dash panel and DO NOT disconnect the battery? Probably you didn't zap anything, but the wires/crimps/terminals are pretty brittle after all those years. I've had wires break right at the crimp and crimps break away from the ring; you will have to look carefully, without ...

The sender is just a variable resistor, close to zero ohms when full and about 230 ohms empty. When you ground the sender wire the gauge should peg full (assuming the ignition is on). Sounds like your gauge is truely smoked. Replace it. I'v seen gauges die several times, on both of my trucks and a f...

If you think about it, the tire tread is like a belt -- it is the same length whether is is round or oval. So the difference in pressure does not contribute much to the circumference. This is why the new cars with "tire pressure monitoring" can barely tell a tire with lost air from the ABS...

I may be getting something similar on my 710. At speeds>80 kph, I begin to hear a "thrum-thrum-thrum" sound. The period is about 1 second. The truck is quite noisy at this speed anyway so you have to listen closely to detect it. You can feel it too. I only hear it when I am giving it thro...

Paddle wheel noise

If you are hearing a "thrum-thrum-thrum-thrum" noise while driving at speed, it is quite possibly the slight difference in speed between the rear driven wheels and the front coasting wheels. The main shaft is turning slower than the front of the transfer case, and the shaft is slowly orbit...

Watch both linkages carefully as you just start to crack the throttle by using the hand control. Probably you have one carb just starting to open before the other, the early one has the shaft linkage a half turn too long. This can keep one carb cracked open unless it is dropped quickly from above id...

Andre can be reached at 951-765-7224. You'll have to ask him if he will make more. He used 2 x 3" angle iron to mount under the rubrails (they are notched to accomodate the rack mount) and this holds the 1-3/4" tubing far enough that the canvas can still be rolled up. He used a fairly heav...

If you go to www.imcdb.org (internet movie cars data base) you can find out that the vehicle in the prison is a 1966 Alvis Stalwart FV623 Series II. Since I haven't seen the movie, maybe you can tell what the other one is.

The reason the rear wheels tip inward so much is probably because the front springs are weak, leting the front drop (which raises the rear). Not a problem, but when I finally got new coils everything looks better. Drive on a flat spot for 20 feet (to let the suspension relax) then measure the cleara...

I, too, have my handles mounted to the door tops with tee nuts and also never bolt the door tops on; they don't rattle at all, but I did put a strip of camper foam tape under the door top to protect the door from getting scratched by the tee nuts. Once the top is off, the door itself is easy to grab...

One of my perceived benefits of the Pinz design is the view down out the windshield; options 1 through 3 get progressively worse, with the "new" design just terrible at being able to see what you are comming across.

No, I think I got that point -- a Hummer can burn 20,000 gallons of gas in 300k miles, but 6,000 gallons for the equivlent mileage in a Prius is worse? And guess who is paying for the "background costs" of moving materials? I'm sure it is me, it is included in the cost of the vehicle (or d...
