Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

The picture is a little deceiving maybe because of the flash. The oil around and along the oil return tube is very obvious in real life. The exhaust stud leak seems to continue indefinitely after shutting down. When I was checking it more often, it could be a day or days and i'd still see a bubble o...

Re: Engine Oil Leak on bottom of cylinder head nearest drive

We got the exhaust manifolds off yesterday in preparation of putting on new used manifolds and the SAV flex kit. So I was able to get some better pictures. The original stud that was leaking even when the engine was not running seems original, no helicoil on it or any of the others. The nuts on Cyli...

Re: Successful Carb Rebuild and New OEM Fuel Pump Install

I've found that the Pinz really needs a big accelerator pump flow to prevent stumbling, but also needs a strong spark. I had a stumble with the old stock ignition, but mostly disappeared going to the Civi ignition. But you shouldn't worry with the SSI kit. You can advance the SSI by rotating the di...

Re: Successful Carb Rebuild and New OEM Fuel Pump Install

Well, the carbs at idle were great, idle mixture screws 2 turns out and reading 10 on the syncrometer. But we have a bog down flat hesitation off of idle, like we've seen several threads about. We have to feather the gas pedal to get the rpm's up to move. After that there's plenty of power. We're go...

Re: Fuel Seeping From Carburetor Top Plate Metal Plug

Loctite 290 (wicking grade, high strength, green) is supposed to seal porosities in metal welds, etc. As the PSI is not more than about 4PSI, it should seal easily and the Loctite specs say it is "chemical resistant, seals oil reservoirs, transmissions" (not a direct quote) so I would exp...

Re: Fuel Seeping From Carburetor Top Plate Metal Plug

Oops, not thinking correctly. When we heated the carbs in the oven the top cover plate was not on the carbs. It and the internals had been removed. So it couldn't have been the heat applied.

Still looking for a sealing solution.

Re: Fuel Seeping From Carburetor Top Plate Metal Plug

bbolander The only plugs I am aware at the bottom of the main body are the two valves fo the accelerator pump and thestarter jet. to the left of the choker assembly is a small M4 screw . if the metal plug in the top part is leaking through the metal plug i would blame it on the heat you applied. dr...

Re: Fuel Seeping From Carburetor Top Plate Metal Plug

It appears we might also be losing the fuel from the bowl. The few times we started it during the first runs after the rebuild it seemed like we had to pump a lot of fuel in it to get it to run. Is there a weld plug that would allow fuel to drain from the float bowl?

Re: Successful Carb Rebuild and New OEM Fuel Pump Install

Just wondering why you have 5 separate threads about your carbs? It may be easier to just have a 'Rebuilding Carbs' thread and then post all carb related questions/issues there? Just an observation Yes, in hindsight that would have been better. I'll keep that in mind next time. But as we were going...

Re: Fuel Pump Options

We installed the SAV OEM pump and after a carburetor rebuild we started it up today. We initially had trouble with the fuel pump not getting fuel to the carbs. Probably since the fuel lines were completely drained back into the tank, and maybe because the pump was just super stiff. We took the pump ...

Re: SAV Mirror Bracket install and operation

Got the new SAV OEM replacement mirrors painted and installed. With the mirror's slight convex shape, they give an excellent view from top to bottom. I like them.

Re: Fuel dripping in carb, including after shutoff

We completed the carburetor rebuild tonight, started up the Pinz and it went perfectly. No more fuel dripping in the carbs before or after shutoff. Fuel levels were perfect on both carbs with two 1 mm washers on the float needle valve. We did that based on a Porsche article that said 0.728" fro...

Re: Engine Oil Level Too High

We successfully completed the carburetor rebuild today and it turned out perfectly. Float levels perfect, synchronized both were 10, ran very smooth and no exhaust smoke or smell. And we replaced the leaking fuel pump with an OEM fuel pump from SAV. So tomorrow I'll change the oil again, and we shou...

Carb Rebuild and New OEM Fuel Pump Install

We just completed what we thought was a successful Zenith 36NDIX carburetor rebuild and SAV OEM fuel pump install. As covered in separate threads, we were having fuel in the engine oil, gas dripping in one carb when running and after running, a very high float level in the rear carb, gas smell, exha...

Fuel Seeping From Carburetor Top Plate Metal Plug

We successfully rebuilt both of our 1971 710M Zenith 36NDIX carburetors. But we noticed a seep from a metal plug in the top cover when we ran the engine after the rebuild. There are no other leaks. We had heated both carburetors to 250F for one hour in the oven in order to get the bottom base screws...
